An Post parcel delays

I've been waiting for a parcel that was sent from the UK on 26 September. A mate of mine is in a similar situation with his parcel.

Is there some sort of strike or dispute on at An Post?

No I think it's just general ineptitude of An Post. I ordered a camera from Amazon in the beginning of August, Amazon tracked it as reaching Ireland the day after it was dispatched *POOF!*, it disappears. I ordered a router from a company in England, it was signed for in a Dublin sorting office, *SHAZZAM* it disappeared. I think a good few people working for An Post see the customs declared value on a parcel and steal it.

Not only that, why does a first class letter from London take a week and a half to get to my house near Enniscorthy?. Ineptitude.

Bad form making wild accusations like that!
As suggested in the other thread, and from info scraped on An Posts website: there is a dispute... without them explicitly stating it: the workers seem to be,at worst, working to rule or else this is what happens when An Post cut back on overtime, etc. - which is appears is essential to the running of the usual service..

Come on now, let's not kid ourselves. I've been living in Ireland for five years, An Post was as bad when I came as it is now.

Well then you have my sympathy, as you're unlucky : I've never seen it this bad (at least, not since the strikes..)
Accusations of ineptitude...fair enough ..there is obvious evidence to support this. However, accusations of stealing... I think that's out of order.

But if they're not being stolen when they arrive to the sorting offices (especially when they've been signed for!) what else could be happening to them? (bar theft)

If you bothered to read... they're getting there...just at a reeally slow rate..

Well if you'd bother to read my post, I ordered the camera in early August. No postal service is that slow, someone's got light fingers.

How's about this for ineptitude. Ordered two separate TFT monitors from Komplett on the same day, to be delivered to the same person at the exact same address, paid for with the same credit card - in fact every detail was the same. An Post delivered one but sent the other back to Komplett citing "incomplete address".

Come on, if I receive a first class letter from the UK - actually from within Ireland - within two days of posting, I am astounded. Which is really terrible service.
I've had things from play and cdwow disappear, obviously stolen because they make it so obvious that it's a CD/DVD and the value is stated on the front.

Would be interesting to know just how much stock those companies lose sending to Ireland? Imagine they refused to post stuff to Ireland in the future if the product loss was very high.

Must admit that I am becoming increasingly concerned about An-Post Parcel delivery.

    I order quite a lot from :- www.qvcuk.com/
and it used to take around 10 days for items to arrive unscathed. Now I consider myself 'lucky' if I receive a parcel in 30 days, and doublylucky if it arrives intact i.e. intact.

Last week I received a well packaged item that looked as though it had been run over by a truck, and upon opening it was broken, beyond repair  Thankfully, QVC told me to "Chuck it in the bin" and they would happily replace it.

If An Post staff have a genuine dispute, they should have more sense than to take it out on Joe Public, as I believe most people do appreciate just how hard being a postal/parcel delivery employee with An Post really is ?...:(

That's completely unacceptable. It's time for the government to do their job and intervene.

It's one thing leaving people languishing in hospital beds in corridors and another making them wait weeks at home before they even get to the hospital.

Package from Play-Asia sent on Friday 14th of October and has not yet arrived. That's 11 days when 5 or 6 is the typical wait. I'll post here if and when it arrives.

My wife had CD's ordered from both CD-Wow and Play.com. Having waited about 3 weeks on both orders she eventually notified them (suppliers) of the non-delivery. She cancelled the CD-Wow order and then ordered the same Cd from Blah.
A few days later the CD-Wow order arrived (about 4 weeks after the posting date) and then the same CD arrived a while after that from Blah.

In the case of Play.com, they posted a replacement which was here in about 7 days but then a week later the missing CD arrived as well.

She now has unopened copies of Josh Groban's album and Barbara Streisands latest release (going cheap:D :D )

Off topic but CD-Wow refused to pay for the return postage costs. Said they would send E-voucher but that doesn't put stamps on an envelope

Hmmm, I like Barbra Streisand, but I just hate paying for her CD's :D .
    Off topic I know, sorry.

That's how they do it. I've returned stuff to Play and CDwow and both times, I got refunded through e-voucher

well i've been waiting on games and cd's going as far back to September 8th, the games are coming from the UK and cd's i've order from cdwow.ie, i'd love to know where they are.

what really gets me is that An Post are always of late fighting over money, pay, working hours, they're already getting more than enough if you ask me and they can't even deliver the service there suppose to  so why give into them again ? they will just do it all over again cause they know they can always get what they want, isn't funny too how they always start this nonsense coming up to christmas.

Had a package posted from Amazon on the 4th November. It arrived here today the 8th. Considering the 5th and 6th were the weekend, I'm pretty impressed. Didn't expect to have it until at least Friday.

Just makes you wonder about who to blame for slow postal deliveries. Amazon dont obviously deliver themselves, they leave that to An Post for the letters and small parcels.

So if Amazon deliveries are quick why are deliveries from other companies so slow?

Do the people in the sorting offices and/or the postmen decide not to deliver mail from a particular company for a couple of weeks or is that particular company telling me and you a little porky by confirming that your order has been posted when it is possibly not even in stock?

Maybe the postmen are to blame, maybe the stores are to blame.

    Two points:

    - anytime I got postage refunds from Play or cd-wow it was directly onto my credit card,

    - I got a letter today from Germany which was posted on the 5th - not bad going.

    - a third point (!) - received the New Yorker today and it only took a week and a letter sent to the US took 5 days (including processing time at the recipient organisation).

So maybe things are speeding up.

Exactly. Since Amazon are one of the bigger companies, I assume that they pay proper shipping rates. I've received packages from play.com that originated from Jersey and Switzerland. Amazon are the best. I blame the companies more than I would the postal service. They're (being the companies) trying to save a few bucks, and to be honest, I can't blame them. Surely you can cope with longer delays for the sake of a cheaper item.
