Has anyone applied for and got this Visa. I hear the chances of success aren't great. Also I've heard of people applying in their English name and their irish name. Does anyone know if this loop hole still exists where you can hold a passport in both you english name and irish name??

I've applied before, but not had any luck. Of course the chances are stacked against you, but if you're not in, you can't win as the saying goes.

Around 50,000 visas are given out through the Diversity lottery every year. Say 5 million people apply, that's a 1 in 100 chance of getting one.

    I guess that's why it's called a lottery.

There is a quota for each country - your chances in ireland are around 20 -1 (i think)

No one country can get more than 7% of all visas in a region, however I didn't find any information on how the visas are divided between regions.

No mention of specific quotas for each country are given, so presumably it would be possible for a given country to have no successful entrants whatsoever.
