I think this story is going to cause a lot of confusion with people thinking it means Ch's 4 going FTA on satellite

In tha short term it actually means very little with the possible exception that we may now see ITV4 appearing on Freeview

It is almost certain ITV4 will be on Freeview anyway, regardless of wherever ITV joined the Freeview consortium or not.

What this will probably mean is that the consortium will probably get a bit more cash to throw around for promotion & ITV and Channel 4 pushing Freeview in a similar way to what the BBC has been doing now for the last couple of years. The only main broadcaster now not part of it is Five.
