that happened to me when i stopped a reinstall while it was going. it means reinstall again cos there aint no OS on that computer.

did it manage to boot from the cd, i.e. when it says "press any key to boot from cd" to do press the any key and start the process or just let it go?

is the cd drive set to boot first?

Could turn out a tricky one or just a borked harddrive.
Have a look here for a few ideas to try.
Hopefully it's straight forward in your case.

Seen this before tis a botched instsll alright.
You ll have to format the drive again because the operating system is only partially installed it probably wont let you boot from the cd.
If you can connect the hard drive as a secondary and format it that way

had the same thing happen to me only yesterday here's how it worked out for me. was getting the missing NTLDR message on screen wasnt sure what was wrong did a bit googling see could i find out what was wrong (sort of found out but wasnt sure what to do) so i gave my Dell XP recovery/re-install cd on e last go in the cd drive as it hadnt been booting into it before that. guess what it worked got to the stage where it was finaising files for my computer then another dialogue box popped up and send error windows needs "asms" something like that did more googling. kept pointing the dialogue box to the xp cd but kept asking for it didnt know what to do so i restarted toook out cd and put it back in and voila it suddenly found the asms thingy cos it didnt ask me to locate it anymore. cut a long story short i got there in the end just took a bit of patience and time (thank god)

Don't format the hard drive just yet young man!!!!

Try this page. i recommended this page to a guy before who fixed his install by simply following the steps.

    Best of luck!
