my dad is holding a iftari on sunday in a restaurant in town but tickets are 100.00 euro each which ALL money goes to pakistan to help those in need.

if you are interested in sending money please pm me and i will send you my contact details so you can send some money.
guys just to tell you ANY AMOUNT counts so please help.

if you have any questions please reply

Offtopic for the Islam forum. Moving to AH seeing as I can't find a similar forum.

btw, sending money to random people on the internet is generally not a good idea. Use reconised charities.

Hi DrDre, You will have to be a bit more open about this, If you don't feel comfortable discussing it in this thread you can pm me.

    I have to agree.

No offence to drdre, who is quite likely just trying to do his bit as a concerned Pakistani and this is probably a commendable act of sadaqah.

The Santa Strike Force works on boards because there are enough boards people involved that many people here can see that someone that they know well enough to trust is involved. With someone who has only been here a few months there are fewer people who can vouch for him. Again, I want to stress that drdre is likely fully sincere, but I'm sure he himself would agree that it is important to be careful of those who would use a situation like this as an opportunity for fraud.

I say go to the iftar if you can, and you can get a measure of the people running it.

The Pakistan Red Crescent Society are apparantly working on setting up an online donation process, so hopefully that will be ready soon.

If you go to the Irish Red Cross one-off donation page you can select "Asian Earthquake" on part 2 of the donation form and the money will be used by the local Red Cross and Red Crescent societies and by Irish Red Cross workers who are travelling to the region.

drdre. Why not give details of the event (what restaurant it will be in, which charities you will be donating to) here in this thread.

It's not just that we don't feel comfortable sending you money, we don't feel comfortable in anyone sending you money without there being any more information about the event out in the open.

    No problem!

the restaurant is shalimar restaurant.17 south great georges street, dublin 2.

the money collected will all go directly to pakistan for helping people directly unlike the agencies which are just in 1 place.
i can also give you my address and contact details if you wish.if theres no support by tonight i would like the mod to close the thread as its no help so far.
    thanks alot

any more questions please ask me

Why help just the Muslims? Why not everyone?

What is an "iftari" ? , i've tried google but the results are a bit confusing tbh.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Good luck with the night, hope it goes well. I already donated to Concern so I can't help out any more, sorry.

    From http://islam.about.com/library/glossary/bldef-iftar.htm

Definition: A meal served at the end of the day during Ramadan, to break the day's fast. Literally, "breakfast."

    Pronunciation: if-tar • (noun)

    Also Known As: fitoor

Examples: During Ramadan, we sometimes go to the mosque to have iftar, breaking the day's fast with a community meal.

he asked that question because he is making an assumption that not all pakistanis are muslims and that muslims weren't the only ones affected.

when you reply in the way you just have so imply that the money will only be going to muslim families who have been affected by the earth quakes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,244 ✭✭✭drdre

its not just going to be for muslims, whoever is affected and needs money in pakistan.eg if theres a hindu in need of food you cannot say no to them.

so thats why i said it was a stupid question. but yeah there has been over 60 tickets sold already for the dinner.

guys just to prove that i was not fraud. we had the dinner today and we recieved over 45000 euro at the moment and that will be min 60000 euro by friday. this will be going for a good cause in buying tents, medicine, cloths, blankets etc.

so just to tell you for all you people that wasted my time.that we didnot need your help as we reached our target.
    thanks again

You wasted my time in not just giving out the details immediately. Do you really expect us to not check up on things like this?

Because randomly giving money to people on bulletin boards is a wise move.

Seriously, I don't think that people wanting you to confirm your identity etc was unreasonable.

The initial post sounded well dodgy to me. drdre, a great deal of people posting here have constant access to a computer, what usually comes with such a constant access to computers is information. Information in the form of email is a big hit. Unfortunately much of the information via email that people with constant access to computers get consists of lies such as spam mail. Plus there have been many incidents in the past of people claiming to helping out for a good cause but actually pocketing the money. So it's quite natural for people to be wary of such private charity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,264 ✭✭✭✭Hobbes

I moved it here and made the initial comment about being wary because up until that post I had no clue who you were DrDre. I asked mods/admins to check up on it, and I also checked up on it outside of boards.ie (which confirmed there was an event but not if you were offically a spokesperson for it).

You could of saved yourself a lot of messing if you had given more details to begin with, heck should of spoken to Dev as hes known to be charaitable with ad space for good causes.

Congrats on getting the money. Friend of mine is in Pakistan at the moment, safe but reports of what is going on is pretty frightening.

    Hi All,

I can confirm that there was a donation appeal in the Shalimar Restaurant in the City Centre and they had invited local Pakistani Business Community and collected a large sum.

I pray that the money reaches the needy asap.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,244 ✭✭✭drdre

thanks qadri, there is going to be another charity event very soon. with that money there has been 20,000 tents bought, medicine and also clothes.

If anyone wants to donate then please pm me, every penny counts.
