Problem with Sky signal

    Hey fellas,
I think some thing must have knocked against my sky dish, because for the last few weeks a lot of my channels have very bad pixelation. In fact, many don't work at all. And if there is heavy rain my sky doesn't work at all. I get a "No Signal Received" error, or something along those lines.
I rang sky and they quoted some crazy money to send someone out, so i was wondering if anyone knows a cheaper solution. I've a feeling the dish needs to be straightened or something. But i don't know how to go about doing this. Any advice folks?
    Thanks

i would suggest gently nudging the dish to see if that increases or decreases the signal

it will be alot easier and faster if you can see the signal strentgh on a tv while you are doing this.

if you do this you may avoid the need for an engineer. if you mess it up you will need an engineer anyway. also try ringing local installers to see what they quote you as they may prove to be a lot cheaper than Sky

Thanks Mossy. I was hopin that wouldn't be the only way! :( When you say to check if it increases the signal do you mean to check by lookin at tv channels or at some signal gauge that i seem to have missed? I'll have to check again when i get home.
    Thanks.

Would it be churlish of me to ask how much Sky offered for an engineer call out??

Yes, there is a signal strength indicator- if you google it you'll find instructions.

€150? jesus h. christ

you should have said "fine, i'll cancel then." that seems to have worked for others

!!! You'd get a independent to do it for less than €100.... as seen recently here. Tea and biccies are optional, but appreciated.

As for the "Right, I want to cancel" route, worth a shot....

Jasus €150 for a relinement. That off the wall. I normally charge €45 to go out and do that around Waterford City. Sure more often than not it only takes a couple of mins.

    LOL! :D

€150 is a mental amount of dosh alright. The only thing is that regardless of what's wrong (be it alignment, LNB, receiver, etc) they'll be fixed/replaced. Still though, the charge should be according to the job done.

Maybe you could let us know what area you are in and we could recommend someone to do it if you cant resolve yourself.

I had problems with my dish caused by a neigbours tree growing over past couple of years & interfering with signal.
Had dish moved to another chimney but the engineer made a right mess of things and in fact signal was worse after he moved it than before and the wiring was a bit of a mess as well.
I eventually decided to consult the yellow pages and I got a bloke out this evening. He charged me €60 and for that he sorted out the lot and in fact the signal strenght & signal quality is now better than it ever was.
Dead happy with what he did for 60 as the roof was far higher than I would ever go.
