So whats the deal, im gonna be gettin a laptop within the next week or so. One of the lads got one today and brought it in with him, he isnt very computer literate and i installed various clients including azureus and warez but neither will download the tracks or in the case of azureus the album!

Is there anybody there that knows a way around this perhaps a talented Netsoc member?

    *sigh*

If it was that easy everyone would do it. Nearly all of UCD's bandwidth would be sucked up by people downloading stuff. The IMRO etc would see lots of traffic going into UCD. They would they send legal letters to computer services. Since lots of UCD's bandwidth would be used in this, legit internet usage by UCD's staff would be crap, they'd get annoyed and complain to computer services. Computer services would hence block it.

Netsoc is a student run society. Computing services are kindly providing us with free space in the server centre and free power to our machines. If we easily allowed people to download crap loads of music etc, then the IMRO etc would send legal letters to computer services. They would probably shut us down. :(

Also if people where to explain here how to download crap loads of music, then lots of people would be able to do it, it'd be found out and hence blocked.

indeed well said, i love orca too much to see comp services chuck her out into the wind and rain. as an ordinary netsoc member i'd hate to see us shut down for that kind of thing.

hint to the OP before he gets banned, nobody said any file sharing had to use UCD's wireless network (and you would be better off not doing so if you want to keep your computer account). I digress, hence google is your friend here.

You're best bet is to get your laptop and try to find wireless networks.

I blame laptops and broadband. Before that people would have to use the lab machines for decent internet access, so they would be hacked to hell. Since lots of people have laptops and home broadband, they don't care that much.
