Modem Problems

    Hey all,

I recently upgraded my pc from Windows 98 to Win XP Pro.

All is going well apart from my dial up connection disconnects all the time. It will connect no problem and then when I try to go to a website it will disconnect. Sometimes it might stay live for 10 mins or 15 mins and then it will disconnect again. The only message I get is "Link to Eircom failed"

I have reinstalled the modem drivers, removed the Eircom connection and added a new one, veryified the dial up number (1892-150150) and I have set the "disconnect if idle box to 24 hours"

    Any ideas??

    How about a new modem??

    Cheers

hmm are you sure theres no dialers on there knocking off your connection, try running a malware/spyware program on there and then give it a shot. Otherwise i dont know, you could try resetting the modems actions to default, go to Control Panel->Phone and Modem Options->Modems->Properties then Advanced and put in the string ATZ in the Extra settings box. I think thats the way you do it anyway and then try again.

Also in your Network Connection properties, is it set to hang up after being idle, i have mine set to never...
I thought the number was 1893-xxx-xxx, i think thats what it was for my flat rate.
