Have DVD running on my computer and although it plays fine and all that, i can't change the settings so that it plays in full screen ...

That is to say it doesn't use the full screen the top and bottom parts of the screen are left black and the DVD plays in a narrowish band in the middle.

Is this as good as it gets or is there a way to get it to use the full screen space?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    J.

Sounds like you've got it playing in widescreen. I assume there is an option to watch it in a t.v. size?

Well i have it set to play full screen,
If i choose Widescreen the narrow bit just gets narrower.

I'll check the option list again when i get home ... but none of them seem to have changed anything and as far as i remember there were only 3.

DVD software is ATI, card is Rage 128 (and the film is Ronin smile.gif )

This might seem silly to you if you're running the movie in a window but...
The movie might be playing in an unusual full screen mode that you haven't centerd properly on your monitor. (eg. 512x?)
Try stretching and centering the screen...

try turning over the dvd disk and playing the normal tv screen side smile.gif

seriously, lots of dvds come wiht widescreen on one side and normal on the other.

only other option is to use your monitor controls and stretch the screen wink.gif

also there should be an option for cinema settings which gets rid of all the windowy crap around the outside

    Well People,
Using the monitor controls to fix the problem turned out to be a fairly poor idea wink.gif

The full screen space was being used but i got motion sickness while watching the film. It was all weird and generally fu(ked up.
Haven't tried flippin the disc WW, but i reckon the printed picture on that side may interfere with the read quality smile.gif

I'll mess about with it for a while and see if there's any settings options i've been overlooking,

    Cheers anyhow people.

What you are seeing is correct Jak (i.e. the thin line job). Most DVDs are optimised for widescreen TVs and as such that's what you get. Some DVDs (not all mind) have, as WWMan said, both a widescreen and a fullscreen version of the film but not taht many.
After all the DVD is supposed to be your home cinema so Widescreen is what you want.
I don't know how big your monitor is but I'm happy enough with my 17" at the mo. My portable in the flat is only 14" so there ye go. If you have a bigger screen on your Tv then get a TV out adapter and watch it on the telly.

Thought that might be true Muso,

I mean i have it playin on a 17" screen so its watchable and all ... i wanted to check though that it couldn't get any better, just in case it was somethin simple to be changed.

I probably wouldn't even be posting half these queries if i could be bothered to start working here smile.gif

Anyhow thanks for yer time ppl

smile.gif ... ah tis ok i was only messin with the Screen readjusting and it has an auto readjust function thing...

Speaking of DVD tho, a friend mentioned the other night that on the porn DVD's in the states they put on options for Language along the lines of calm, exotic and nasty ... the future is a long way from Sam Fox's Strip poker on the c64 smile.gif
