iTunes annoyance question

Has anyone else ever run into iTunes complaining that "the installed software is incompatible" and asking that you reinstall iTunes each time a new iPod is connected to the machine? I still get this even if the new iPod is of the same model.

Its even more annoying as I've used gtkpod under Linux with every kind of iPod imagineable without a complaint.

Is there something in options I've mayhap missed?

Did you update the iPod drivers recently? if not try that.

This happened to me when i updated iTunes (5.0.1), i updated the iPod software and it solved the problem.

Me too - had to also update iPod software. Apple released two updates in September alone, which is unusual, - for podcasts and the iShuffle etc (i think)
