Is anybody from here thinking of paying a visit? It should be a good one, and the corolla will be there too, hopefully ;)

    Hi Jim-20,
    Welcome to the forum!

I might head over to that show.

Is it near Cavan Town ?
......directions from the east coast ?

    Show Report.

I would say there were c.150 cars on display/for sale and c.20 vintage tractors.
There were surprisingly few autojumble stands for such a large venue - I counted only 8

A lot of the cars were UK or N.I reg and a lot were less than mint/solid condition. Personally if I were buying, I would only have considered about a quarter of the entries worthy of further investigation.

A few cars really stood out to me ......an orange (N.I reg) GT Beetle and a dark blue (UK reg) TR6 (for €20k) - both in mint condition .....oh, and well-restored (UK reg) 2 dr Toyota Corolla KE20 - a rare sight indeed !

What I found really disappointing (apart from the profusion of shabby cars!) was the fact that I arrived at c.12pm in the expectancy that the auction would be under way ..........and it still had not started as I was leaving at 3pm !!!
(Do they expect people to stay around all day for the auction to start ?!)

(The fact that admission to the sale/auction/autojumble cost €10 was not appealing either ......though it was announced later that all the proceeds were going to the charity Aware, which made the cost more palatable).

    Excellent venue for the sale/auction/autojumble.

This is my second classic car sale to attend in as many weeks and I have to say that the quality of the cars on display at both sales (and the prices being asked at the Citywest sale!!) would not endear me to attend any more such events ........even though I was merely a spectator.

    Silvera.

Hey I thought I posted a reply here yesterday:confused: I'll post the pictures below, again, including one or two for DS.

Hey Silvera, sorry didn't get to meet you personally, I would have valued your honest opinion, and had I the internet at home, some directions:)
It was indeed very slow getting under way. I arrived (late I might add) at half twelve, and expected to be told that inside was full, but I got into the third row!

The auction was pretty much a non starter, with most people just going up for a look, with their hands deep in their pockets;) . It was really only the cars up at the high level for sale, including a cortina below, and the rest were there for show purposes only. Definetly there was more people and stands there last year, maybe another show was clashing?

I know from the ad they put in the paper, that they were looking only for cars etc pre 1975, but I continued on in anyway to see what they would say!
Does anyone have any views at what age they should limit the cars to?

Any more events coming up before the machines all dissappear for hibernation?

    I also took a pic of that KE20 ! ......tho it wasn't raining - I left just before 3pm;)

    Re Age Limits -
I would prefer a 1989 age limit ...as I'm an 'eighties child' :D

Don't know of any more car shows coming up.
Only the annual Autojumble at Toughers, Naas where some owners park their classics in the adjacent truck/car park (normally c.10-15 cars).
The autojumble does be quite good actually, nearly all indoor stalls with a lot of books, manuals, posters, etc for sale.

BTW, of the cars you posted above, the Granada had the worst paint job I had seen in quite a while - a rear amateur job ........ plus lots of rust showing.

    Nice pics !

..............every car cant be perfect though ! Would you rather they only allowed perfect "unused" cars or fully restored cars only ? It would make for an even less interesting display IMO !

I understand that, however these "sales" seem to attract most of the dregs of classic cars available - and at overated prices.
So IMO it's a waste of money to pay to look at them.

Thanks for the photos Jason. That's a fine looking Traction. Could you not have thrown a match on the brown allegro beside it? :)

........yeah I hear ya ! When I went to the first Celbridge one, and ALL of the Merlin ones it seemed that anyone who knew anyone with an old banger took it there and stuck a silly price on it !
