Buying Apple Laptop in the US

    Hi

I am considering buying the Apple iBook 12" 1.33GHz Combo Drive. I need it for email/photo/iPOD/general word and graphic processing.

First of all, is there any disadvantage to buying it in the us. The only thing i can think of is the DVD player playing ,only American Region DVDs, anything else i should be aware of?

Secondly, do you all think that is a good choice?

    Thanks

Dont think you need a converter, I bought a powerbook last year in new york and all i needed was a 2euro plug adaptor, ditto with an ipod mini charger

Theres good savings involved, I bought my powerbook for 1800 dollars when the euro was worth 1.36 so i saved even more.

Most US mac stuff is the same price here, except you save on the currency conversion, IE, if its 999 dollars there, its 999 euro here, a hefty saving.

Watch out for local tax rates on goods, such as New Yorks 8% tax

thats a non-issue, laptops are designed to travel and in 98% of cases support anything in the range of 100-240V.

As you rightly said OP, the DVD region could be a bit of hassle, but with the correct firmware can be made region free. Also your keyboard will be US, so @ and " will be the opposite to the way you are used to.

Otherwise they work fine, ive broght in about 30 in total from the US over the years without any issues.

[edit] when you get back to ireland, you should be able to claim your sales Tax back too ;) [/edit]
