well... I missed the halo event & the gamesoc reception for working/not knowing it was on reasons but I patriotically shook my first at some trinity "gaming society" guys who thought i was looking for their group in doyles (was looking for the toilet).

Anyway i was wondering if team games are/could be arranged against trinners or DCU gaming societies? 2 elite teams in Halo, counterstrike, etc and all filmed for the future glory/shame of the colleges sounds like a lot of fun to me...

I'd be up for this. All we need is someone to organise things. *looks at passive*

Halo and Counterstrike are so passe, Street Fighter 3 is the way real men settle disputes.

Hey Kirby.. It's been decided by the council of Rasher and I that you should organise this... put together a couple of teams and get on the line to trinity! i'll be assistant organising supervisor and shadow leader.

DCU have been wanting to get something like this going in Counter-Strike for some time. If we can find a suitable venue we'd be all for it.

Counterstrike/any pc game with that player capacity would certainly be the easiest (I'd better start playing it again!).

Can computer rooms be comandeered at unimportant times for purposes like this? if it's a proper event and such...

I don't think ucd computer services would ever let you put anything ressembling a game near their terrible dell machines.
I remember there being a thread about this before on the college forums a year or two back, don't know if it actually came off. It would take an awful lot of organising though.
We'd have to run tryouts or something to find the five best players and then they'd have to practice...
I play under Cloud btw and usually am on irish source servers now as the 1.6 ones seem to have died a death over the summer.

This is one time when console games have a slight advantage... A 16 player Halo LAN (UCD vs DCU vs Trinity vs erm, TIT) would be much handier to organise than having to ask Computer Services could we put games on their machines. Unfortunately, FPS games are just better on PCs...

If you are organising a lan, do not go to a cafe!

Is there a hall that socs can rent out in UCD? We have one in tallaght which we're considering using for a LAN.

    TIT

    ITTD

There's no where to rent that stays open very late. While one mr15 cs match wouldn't take long, once you go to the trouble of setting it up it'd be nice to muck around or make it a best of something on different maps.
Anyone who's any good would probably want to bring their own pc so getting the materials to set up the lan (hubs, servers, cables etc.) is the only other issue.

DCU have run a successful byopc lan in dcu itself. We're running another 50 man lan soon and the one ofter that may be bigger with other colleges invited (:

you know dit are organising a 150 man 24 hour lan party, and the ucd, trinity, dcu etc gamesocs/netsocs are trying to be contacted

pretty much any multiplayer game is up to be played for :)

Sounds good, could you post the details here when their available as the ucd game soc is about dice and the net soc is about web space so Im a member of neither but love a good bit of lanning.
