Anyone play Dublin EPT live satellite in the Merrion last night?

I played it, there were only 14 runners with one ticket. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th got tickets into the €440 event at the festival, and 6th was €220. I thought paying 6 out of 14 was stupid but obviously they want to guarantee as many people playing in the festival as possible and everybody else there didn't seem to object so I kept quiet. Also I thought that if they'd just given €2000 to second place it would give them alot more bargaining power for some sort of deal; €440 for second and €4400 for 1st is a bit steep to say the least, and I don't think any tournament should ever pay out much more than 10 to 15 % of its entrants. I probably won't play it again for this reason as you really have to win it to get any return, I ended up paying in €420 anyway so I would have just been getting my money back even for second, and I reckon most of the people there will end up playing that event anyway.
There were 3k starting chips and 5k for the top up so the structure was pretty slow and good. I had my bottom two pair outdrawn by Gerry who hit a higher two pair on the turn, that took most of my chips and then I went out with 99 v KK which I could have probably gotten away from but I was short stacked and a bit on tilt.
A ticket was definitely achievable with a bit of luck though, and the field wasn't too tough with most of the regulars filling it up. I think I'll try my luck at the stars one next saturday and the paddypower one during the wk instead though.

Oh yeah Mark you should give them your email and phone number. They have a mailing list which they send out info mails on regarding upcoming tournaments etc.

I was going to head in, but when I phoned at 8.45pm to find out details of structure etc, I also asked were there many registered, the guy on poker desk said no (which I took to mean less than 5 and possibly nobody at all!!!) ...

So I then asked him was there one guaranteed ticket. Him: "What do you mean?" Me: "Well, if you don't get 4,200 euro in the pot to cover the EPT game buy-in, would we just be playing for whatever money you do take in?" Him: "I would IMAGINE so!"

So I didn't bother heading in! Admittedly I was already half-hearted anyway, because I was in the Merrion on Tuesday night and they never announced that the tourney would be on last night! In the Fitzwilliam on Thursday, I mentioned it to a few of the regulars and none of them were aware it was happening either, except Willow, who OVERHEARD somebody else talking about it in the Merrion on Tuesday!!!

Shocking lack of promotion on the Merrion's part... NOTHING on their website, they have had my email address and phone number for 18 months and I do get VERY occasional email from them, but nowt in relation to this tourney...

Yeah I know it's really badly run, even if they started posting on here or something. They really need to get their act together if they're going to have any chance of competing after the sporting emporium opens.

I had a look inside during the week - very very impressive. I think there might be a soft opening this week but more likely the following week as the builders are still on site.

The schedule hasn't been decided yet but I am hoping they will fill in the gaps that are Thursday and Saturday. There is bound to be clashes, though!

Probably because if the people who are paid to do a job don't bother why should the regular unpaid punters give a crap?

The way you posted it was insinuating that you'd hope one of the Merrion players would take time out to do it. By claiming you'd do it if you were a regualar you are making the Merrion regulars look bad for not taking the time out to do it.

My point is, if The Merrion can't be arsed trying to save their club why should the punters?

I know how you feel. Just went out with AQ v AJ in that partypoker tourney. J on the river, sick. Got in the money but would have been in a great position (over twice the average) to take a shot at the big cash, 105k for first!

ahh... just back from a holiday in Turkey. Havent seen a poker table in over a month! nice to see everyone is still bitchin about the Merrion:)

PS: I think my triumphant return to poker will be this Thursdays freeroll at the Fitz. Watch out!
