The oil light just lit up on my car. Could I still drive about 'til Monday without any problems?

Most definitely NO. You have possibly already damaged the engine and should get the oil level up to the recommended level as quickly as possible, investigate any sign of a leak and keep the level topped up. Check the dipstick weekly until a pattern is observed.

Did you dip it, and top it up a wee bit if neccessary?
Any oil leaks under the car to be seen, Throw a white chemical bag under it overnight, and see if theres much on it in the morning.
You wouldnt want to drive it if its low,,, if it is low, just top it up. I assume you have some oil in the shed. :)

do not drive it ... full stop , check the oil level and get some oil or get a friend to do it then buy him/her a pint .

A couple of days ago I heard something hit the car. I got out and saw a stone about the size of an orange on the road. I couldn't see any marks on the body so it must have been underneath that it struck.

I didn't notice any oil on the driveway since that, but then again I didn't look. It must have been the stone caused a leak because the car is only a few months old.

I have about a 4 mile drive home tonight, have no oil handy and there is nowhere open around here!!

You have most likely damaged the sump. There may be a lot of damage done already, considering it happened a few days ago, but perhaps if the oil light has just came on it may have been a small leak and you had a reasonable sump of oil until now.

Dont think of driving, either way.

Just to clarify a bit, is it an 'oil level' light or an 'oil pressure' light?
Both are bad, but the pressure light is more serious.

In either case check your oil level and top up as necessary, but if it's the pressure light, unless you know what you're doing (and no offence, but it doesn't sound like you do :( ) don't even attempt to start the engine, let alone drive the car.

It might be just a faulty sensor or a wiring problem, but if you stay driving with an oil light (of any sort) showing, you can forget about any warranty on your engine. Get someone who knows what they're at to have a look.

It was a message on the dash screen that said "Check Oil Level". Then the oil light came on. I dipped it and it's at "Min" level on the dipstick. There's a station about two miles from here, I'll go there and get a litre.
and no offence, but it doesn't sound like you do

none taken, you're quite correct in your assupmtion :)

Ah, sound like you're just low on oil then.
The knock you gave it a few days ago has probably caused a leak somewhere.

If you're CERTAIN it's not pressure it's talking to you about, take it easy to the service station and top it up. Ideally, get a lift there and back or get someone to fetch you some oil.

Top it up close to the full mark, but don't overfill. Switch on the ignition and see if the "Check Oil Level" warning goes off or never appears. If it looks good, start it up and let it tick over, watching the dash for messages or lights.
If everything looks all right, switch off and check your level again and top off as necessary. Drive as normal, but get a spare litre of oil to carry with you, and do as Nuttzy suggested and park it somewhere overnight where it'll be easy to see in the morning if there is a leak, or put a plastic sheet under it.
Keep a close eye on the oil level, and don't jump into it and drive to Cork or somewhere before you find out how quickly you're loosing oil.

Get thee to a garage ASAP on Monday :D

Well I went to the garage and got two litres and put one in. It's about 3/4 full now. So I'll go home and let her sit overnight and have a look under in the morning.

Anyone know of any basic car care courses in or around the northwest :D

Thanks all for the helpful stuff :)
