    Hi all

I built my own system about 6 months and it has started giving me a real BIG problem. The problems started 3 days ago. I was playing Doom3 for an hour or so, then loaded up Half life 2 for an hour or so as well. I started getting weird looking tectures in HL2 and soon after got a blue screen of death to do with memory.

I restarted the pc, but it turns itself off after 8 seconds every time. I eventually found out what was causing this. My psu is underpowered, after I plugged out a couple of fans, disconnected the 6800 and plugged it back in, it worked fine. But then the next day came the next problem.

Every time I turn on the pc, its looks like its working fine, the winXP pro screen comes up but when the main screen of my windows desktop tries to come up, the monitor turns off, just as if i disconnected it. If I restart in VGA or safemode, it comes up fine. But the monitor switches off if I change to a higher res than 640x480.

This only started recently, Ive no idea whats up with it.

Are you sure the card was reseated properly?

Does the monitor blanking happen on a cold startup? Are the fans still disconnected?

Firstly you definitely need to get a new PSU - I hope you didn't buy a cheap QTec did you? After you replace your PSU you can start trying to figure out what's going on with your screen (it's more then likely nothing to do with the screen but with the PC).

your call will be answered in the order it was received, your call is number *computer voice* 1,908 :p

Sounds to me that you havent reseated it properly or its (or something is) overheating, upgrade the PSU like the lads said.

yeh ive reseated it multiple times. Its seated properly. I was hoping it was something as simple as needing drivers. But I never changed anything for this to happen so maybe not.

Ive reconnected and disconnected the fans several times trying to get it to work and yes, its the same on a cold start up.

well, the good news is, used driver cleaner and downloaded the newest NForce drivers, installed them and it works. The only thing is now, all my windows stutter up the screen, like I have a framerate of 3 or 4 per second

I had this years ago on another pc and installing direct X fixed it, not this time...
