New Sky account - same phone number?

As I mentioned elsewhere, I've cancelled my Sky account due to the poor performance & customer service since the recent EPG upgrade. I didn't mention to them that I'll be moving house shortly and would have cancelled anyway. I want to get a fresh order in (wife's name, different bank account) in time for Christmas, but am not sure what to do about the phone number.
I need to bring the current phone number with me - will this cause a problem when Sky see a phone number for a recently cancelled account suddenly placing an order only a few days later?

No shouldn't do, if they ask questions just say you bought the house off your brother and when you moved into the house and the number was there.

Wrong. Sky have just spent 50 million pounds on a new crm system. When ordering Sky again with the same telephone number, their system will reckonise this and not allow the operator to book the installation. One time it was fine you could do it. Just give them a work number. Also you do not need to change your bank account number. Not even do you need to put it into your wife's name if the address is different.

Numbers in Ireland can be re-assigned pretty easily if sky's system relys on the number only they are pretty stupid. If you were to get a second box on that account €15 for mirror subscription you will need to have the boxes connected to the number you gave or they will cut your second sub.

So I wouldn't go using a different number, I really really doubt they will refuse your wifes business simply because of the number as I said tell her to say she bought the house and the number was there, its very possible in Ireland.

In the UK numbers can be given to other people. When my brother bought is house in London he was given the same number as the previous occupants of the house. Im sure Sky are quite used to this and there will be no problem.

When my family moved to the house we have now we got phone calls for about a year for 'The Walshes'. They'd not paid their bills, Telecom had taken their line out, and we got their number. Sure, it was 1986, but it must still happen occasionally...

Well, just to confirm, a customer brought in to me during the week, a signed up contract. I went and rang the Sky Card Order number, and proceeded to give the details. But, once I said the phone number, she asked me to wait a second, and came back saying that the phone number was already registered to a system and she said she couldn't go ahead with the order.

So yes, Sky have tied up that loophole.

Thanks for all the advice folks, seems I'll have to put a bit of thought into my strategy before ordering!
