X2 3800 definitely. It'll overclock to pretty close to what the FX55 would have, and it's gonna run silky smooth for multitasking

the 3800 runs @ 2ghz where as the Fx55 runs @ 2.6... The FX55 will go to 2.8 easy on air. I dount the 3800 will clock that far... Im just looking at the present and near future... Whats the advantage of the 3800??? The FX55 is allot faster in single core progs and thats all thats out at the moment...

Im sure the 3800 could could hit 2.6 ghz on air. Definitely doesnt seem out of the question from what i've seen.

The big advantage of the 3800 would be that it would be nearly as fast as the fx-55 just you could do more than 1 tyhing at once without the systme falling apart. Like music/virus scan/downloading something/ encoding a divx while gaming. I would without a doubt take the 3800

well, the 3800+ costs less than half of the fx55. You could get a 4600+ for less than the fx55 price (or get a 4400+ with 2mb cache and oc it), or almost buy a 4800+

I can get an FX55 for the same price as a X2 3800... Gonna go for the X2, read a tonne of reviews, Dual core does make more sense. For a pure gaming machine the FX55 is the cpu to get tho..... Will be a while before its beaten(apart from the FX57..)

Hrm, well it depends on what the machine is going to be used for. If its primarily a gaming machine and you can get an FX-55 for the same price as a X2-3800 then I'd definitly go with the former!

I think that the performance difference between the FX-55 and the X2 in games is small enough that the smoothness of a dual core rig would easily balance it out. You're talking about having a 7800 before youll notice a little 200mhz difference in actual gameplay

If you're going to be just playing games go for the FX, if you're going to be doing other stuff like video encoding and such get the dual core.

Going dual core.... Im gonna be running two 6800gts in SLI with a gig of ram on a DFI mobo. When i think about it, say the X2 3800 runs far cry @ 50fps and the FX55 runs it @ 65fps, i ain't gonna notice the difference..... Its still bloody playable. I do allot of video encoding so the dual core is the best option...
