Ok I've decided to treat myself to a new car so I have 2 well 3 in mind.

First is 2001 Subaru Legacy 2.5ltr Gold Automatic
Second is 2000 Volvo C70 Coupe 2ltr Silver Manual
Third is 2001 Alfa 147 Selespeed 2ltr Blue Automatic

All 3 are good value the first 2 are the same price with the third been 2000 cheaper.

I have only driven the Subaru so far and I loved it except it's automatic and obviously Manual is more enjoyable to drive especially when you have the power.

So I'd be interested in hearing peoples opinion or if they had another car that looked well and has plenty of power for under 16,500.

    Cheers

Got a 4th one I'm interested in 2000 Toyota Celica 1.8 VVTI Manual.

Anyone got any of these 4 cars and care to give me a review??

Would be inclined towards the Subaru myself - wolf in sheep's clothing. Look round for a manual?

Just my opinion but the Subaru, pity it's an automatic, but still the Subaru.
The Alfa will break, and the Volvo weighs the same as a fully laden oil tanker!!

I'd buy the Subaru. Its a superior car to the others and you'll get used to the automatic, in fact i'd prefer an automatic.

Cheers for the reply's lads. I drove the Volvo at the weekend lovely car but a very different drive to the Subaru. Although it had alot of power kinda surprised me infact but I suppose it has got 163bhp!!

I wanted the Alfa Selespeed but done a bit of reading and everyone that reviewed it said the eleectronins on the gearbox failed so thats a non runner.

If the subaru was manual I'd had bought it by now but I just don't like auto's no fun driving one, although the Legacy handles like a dream I went in a bend at 50 and left it doing 70!

So at the moment I'm swaying towards the C70 for comfort and it's manual but I'm trying to raise another 2 grand so I have a look at this:

    What do you think?

If you're serious about the Toyota you could save quite alot by checking out the Japanese auctions yourself. The photo on that page is directly from the Jap' auction website... so the garage here is making a healthy profit by importing and doing the paperwork themselves. Fair enough, but you could do this yourself and save a decent amount.

you'll just need to sort out shipping (500quid or so) and VRT etc. when it comes in. Pity they've already bought that Celica though ;-)

Still, have a look into it if you have your heart set on Subaru, Toyota etc....

Cheers for that Mike, any idea where I would go about importing one myself. I wouldn't have a clue where to start, thanks.

    1. Subaru - really decent car, good engine, and very solid. Auto box ix a bit of a stumbling block.

    2. Volvo - sturdy and nice loks, but that is it. No great shakes.

    3. Alfa - looks, style & performance. Selespeeds are iffy!

    4. Celica - looks, reliability performance. Interior is, mah, tolerable. Probably the best option.

But as said on a recent thread, if the car hasn't been looked after, it will give trouble, regardless of the manufacturer. These are all performance cars, and should have been treated with that extra bit of TLC.

Thanks for that post prospect nice to get someone elses opinion.

I have decided to give up on the idea of an Alfa selespeed, I've read quite a few reviews by owners online and they all seem to have had problems with the selespeed's eletronic box.

At the moment I'm swaying towards the Volvo, the auto box in the Subaru is just putting me right off and at 2.5l it's going to be very hard on fuel.

The Volvo is very nice and comfy but it's not really a sporty drive and 75,0000 on the clock is a tad high.

The Celica is awesome but pricey if I can sell my own for good money I might just be able to make it. I don't think many cars will beat the Celica 6 speed well not in that price range anyway.

But if anyone has any other idea's I'd be delighted to hear them.

What about the Peugeot 406 Coupe? Personally I think it's a cracking looking car, because it is so understated...

Yea looks like an option although doesn't have the same appeal style wise as the celica.
