Hi I've got stuck, my computer has been infected with a Trojan Horse virus. I know this because my Virus detecter tell me every 15 seconds. It says it can't do anything about it but identify the file as : C:/system32.exe I have tried to go in and delete it myself or change it names, but apparently I don't have any rights on that file.

I'm kind of stuck, I don't want to turn off my anti Virus but It just won't shut up. I don't think I have the CD to rebuild the machine and I don't really want reformat the hard drive, god know what I would loose.

    Can anyone suggest anything?

    Thanks Molly

You have no rights to delete it because its running, press ctrl+alt+delete and it should bring up the task manager, then end the system32.exe process and then trying deleting it but you should get The Cleaner, i think from moosoft.com and avg from grisoft.com best of luck

    I would try

    Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

    and

    X-Cleaner http://www.xblock.com/download-freeware.php

You can installer these over your AV solution. I find that they find things and remove them when other apps can't.

I had something similar and got rid of it with Avast. After install Avast gives the option of scanning the system on the next bootup. It does this prior to loading Windows so permissions etc don't cause problems.

    Hi Mollytt...

As mentioned, If your antivirus reports that it cannot delete a detected file, Windows may be using the file. To fix this, run the scan in Safe mode.
As you didnt mention what operating system you have heres a page on how to boot into safe mode...
In safe mode you'll be able to delete/rename the file manually if you want...

    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

Dont forget to turn OFF system restore (if u use it) as itll just back up the trojan on you and you'll be chasing your tail... then when ure al clear re-enable it.
