I've had a good read of a few of the threads in this forum and there's some very useful stuff. I've also done a good bit of background research on the web about the options for houses. There is a lot of different options out there.

If you were building a new house (I will be soon..), then what kind of eco systems would you put in? I'm all for keeping bills to a minimum and don't mind a bit of initial outlay. But my main concerns about some of the systems is that they just don't pay off longer term. I think if the thread develops out well, then it could be a useful source for other people in a similar situation to myself.

Let's try use something like the following headings to keep the answers somewhat consistant with each other it'd help too.

    1. Outline of systems, and what you can run off it.
    2. Details of systems, including outline intial costs.
    3. Drawbacks using this type of system if any.
    4. Payback period as opposed to intial 'conventional' systems (projected obviously!)

Like a lot of people I have various ideas but would love to hear from people who've been there done that about what their opinions are on it all.
    Thanks
