What are the numbers on pint glasses 4 ?

    I always wanted to know what these were for
    on a guinness glass it might say 160/30 ?
    i heard someone say something bout the thickness of the glass
    or something but i was wondering if anyone here knew what it
    actually meant

    AFAIK it's a stamp to indicate an offical size. so the measuring official has a particular numbered stamp, and they have decreed that that glass is a pint.
    Course I could be wrong. Always thought that 1759 was the year that Arthur founded his brewery. turns out it was the time he poured his first pint!

    the bottom one is definitely the year because ive seen 98,99,00,01,02,03,04,05 there as the years went on.
    the top one isn't the design of the glass because i've seen different designs with the same number. for the same reason i doubt its a batch number. i keep seeing the same numbers reoccuring e.g. i've seen 160 in the top number loads of times but never 120-159 or 161-200. i'd like to hear from someone who knows for definite

    The number refers to the Weights & Measures Authority in the area where the glass was stamped/manufactured.

    Look here

    Everytime a manufacturer produces a run of half/pint glasses for commercial use, they have to put forward a set sample for testing by government weights and measures department.

    If the samples fail, all glasses in that batch fail and are destroyed. Weights and measures also impose set fines for failed batches.

    Looks like Durham , Do you know af any Irish Glass manafacturers ?

    As far as I know they have all closed . If it says Durham on the glass ....Durham it is !
