Right-click Crashing

I'm running Windows XP and I've recently been having trouble when I right-click on files or on the desktop - I can right click within IE and Firefox without a problem though. Whenever I right click on a file/on the desktop, the computer just crashes, with two dialogue boxes appearing asking about sending error reports to Microsoft - one specifies a problem with "dr. Watson". After these two boxes appear, everything else but these boxes just freezes up - when I click send/don't send, they just reappear. Again and again and again.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me - I'm getting kind of desperate right now.

When you right click windows checks all the things listed so if your floppy not working it will crash pc.

Check your CD and floppy drives are working if not disconnect them or kill floppy from bios.

Does it specify a problem with Dr Watson, or that the problem has been logged within Dr Watson?

Both my DVD drive and my DVD-RW drive aren't working - but they're not showing up in the bios/my computer/anywhere at all. I'll disconnect them totally and see if it works...

It says that there was a problem with DrWatson - but I can't get any specifics, the system just stops responding after the Dr. Watson error window opens.

Thanks for your help so far.

Have you checked the error logs in Dr Watson?

Just in case you aint sure,

    To bring it up:

-Go to your Windows Start menu, select Run. In Open, type: drwtsn32.

    -Hit enter

    -Brings up the conf window

-You should see the Log File Path at the top

-This gives the location of the log file, drwtsn32.log

Check out the log then see what the error it gives ya back...

If ya aint sure just post it up and we'll try and help!

Well it does on my windows and all windows i have ever used, hence the delay when you right click on a file. Windows Checks all in the list to see whats there.

But im sure you will elaborate....

    KdjaC,
Yes, when you right-click, the menu does appear. But if you don't have a floppy installed, or is not working properly, this has no affect on the performance of windows whatsoever, i.e. the PC will not crash.
