How much would I charge to place a banner ad on my site for a company, the banner would be about 500x60 and the site would have high volume traffic?

What is your definition of high volume?

How many unique visitors are you getting per month?

Depending on the quality of the website in terms of target market being reached by advertisor, size and positioning of the banner ad, the marketing information you provide them and how many people actually click the ad on your site

Your looking at anything from €1 to €15 per thousand impressions. High volume sites like rte charge for around €10 for a banner ad at the top of the page, bigger sky scraper style ads running down the right hand side of the page would be rough €14

But there would be a minimum spend of about 1,500

You can judge yourself what you should be charging or if you post up more info maybe we can help

A premium Irish site, would be on average €6-€7 CPM for a banner. A 2nd tier site, €2.

Lots of site claim stupid figures like €20 but its all bull.

For you own site just sell it on a fixed position basis, eg X for a month its less hassle.

leftofcentre, i'd be interested to know what premium irish website is offering 6-7 cpm for a banner?

only way i could see that happening is with committing to a long term contract and even then still seems on the low side

Well I was an online media buyer for 4 years ;-)

Obviously I can't meantion specific names, but I have never paid more than €10 cpm for ANY irish site and thats for one off campaigns not long term.

There is a lot of smoke and mirrors that goes on, eg lots of 'bonus' impressions, or 'psuedo sponsorships'.

My own view is that sites get hung up on the CPM price, what really matters is the total spend.
