I don't think anyone on that list deserves it. I can't think of anyone who deserves it this year actuallly.

Wasn't this year the 60th anniversary of the bomb being dropped - I think that's why the winner was picked.

Almost anyone of any note can nominate someone for it. Former winners, members of national parliaments, university professors, anyone appointed as a special advisor to the Norwegian judging committee. Hitler was nominated, Stalin was nominated twice, Mussolini got one, Bush has had a few. To be fair, the guy who nominated Hitler withdrew the nomination, though the fact that he invaded Poland after the nomination went in might have had something to do with it. I wiouldn't pay any attention to the nominees from any year (they're officially kept secret for fifty years so we only know for certain about the ones prior to 1946, any more recent ones come from the nominator opening his/her gob about it) as there's no control or standards of any kind on nominating someone.

Screw getting confused about why people might be nominated: Henry Kissinger actually won the damn thing.

Here is a list of all laureates http://nobelprize.org/peace/laureates/
Not all have been directly involved in peace, per se. Most obvious one Mother Teresa.
