A few years back, when we first got p.c., we used to look at some site that showed aerial views of Ireland - you could zoom right in and see your own estate (em, as in housing estate, not private demesne)...I'd love to be able to locate that site...does anyone have a link?

    Thanks, anyway... :)

Google Earth does something like that for Ireland. But only around the more urban areas.

Try satellite photos on Met Eireann's site for full views of the country. There would be other satellites that you can view shots from too.

This is the same sat image that's been around for years, it's pretty much what I remember from the IOL Get-a-map service that closed down eons ago.
If you notice, a lot of these sites sat images are watermarked by Mapflow, who I suppose provides the same map to everyone.
As for age, I'd say at least 5 years old judging from some places that are still only building sites in the sat photos, that have actually been fully finished buildings for many years.

The proper M50 from the N81 Interchange down to the M11 interchange doesn't even exist yet!

Google earth is amazing! you can even see trees. But your right it can be really sketchy in rural areas.

Lol! But I guess if its getting that close from space it could really be reading the Evening Herald in the back seat of your car!

some of google earth's images of dublin have been updated. they picked a pretty crap time of day to do it though, the southern quays are in darkness practically.

as for how good the zoom is, heres a shot of the millennium spike on o'connell street.

    http://homepage.eircom.net/~billythesquid/spike.jpg

apart from dublin, cork wexford and somewhere in the middle of nowhere in galway and kerry, the maps of ireland are pure crap on google. earth

    Dell Campus Liemrick

Dells Factory is the only thing you can make out in the whole of Limerick City. the one with the blue roof.

Dell emf3 was built in 2000, it is still a green field site according to mapflows shots of Limerick.

More like 6 yrs old. The shot of my house has a car on the verge I haven't owned since 99. Cool though

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Em...it turns out we had a print-out of one of those aerial photos - it had come from iol.ie - iolmap. But there seems to be no such link now.

use the "search by map" function on www.myhome.ie and you can zoom in pretty close on the pics. The photos are from Mapflow and pretty out of date though-probably 6 years old at least

Well besides "pic" views... http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm is one of the easiest to use map sites about. Just draw a square with you mouse and bingo! For directions and what have you.

And that myhome etc is about 6 years old. The roundabout near my gaff in ballycullen is under construction in the pics... so yeah about 5 or 6 years old...

Can still see the shed in my back garden though :)

outside dublin, cork, limerick and wexford (dont ask me how wexford got on that list) its like a map rather dissapointing really strange why belfast and galway arnt shown a lot better
its like galway is covered with some sort of cloud

its view of limerick is ****. dublin cork the aran islands and a portion of wexford get hi resoloution coverage though.

guess they would rather get new shots of dublin over and over again rather than take shots of the country which they havent covered properly.

The My Home one would be perfect - if only a neighbour would put their house up for sale. Next time I see one of those signs in a garden, I'll be checking out the site.

Why am I posting something like this at 00.57 on a Saturday night?
