    Hi there,
I hope this is the right place to post a question like this. I was hoping you may be able to offer some advice to me.

I am looking to take up a martial art of some sort, but dont know what would be the best for me. I am 28 Y.O. and quite big and heavy, (6'2" and app 17 st). I would like to take up a sport that would allow me to use my weight, and also I would like something that will teach me good self defense. Also, I would like something that will help me improve my overall fitness. I have had a number of people tell me conflicting things about the various martial arts, so I thought perhaps the experts could offer some help! Down the road, I would also like something that may allow weapons training. If its of any consequence, I live in Co Meath (Trim area) and work in Clondalkin in Dublin, so preferably somehting in these areas. Travelling wouldnt be a problem though if i could find something thats right.
    thanks in advance!
    Noel

    Hello Noel,
There is a Bujinkan Dojo in Clondalkin on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings - which may interest you. Theres a link to the club on the main Bujinkan Ireland website www.bujinkan.ie
I should say that it wouldn't be considered a sport as there are no competitions but it does include weapons training, self defence etc. I believe there are other clubs in the general area (kick boxing and maybe MMA) -someone else may be be able to give you details of those.

    All the best.

    Noel,

You're more than welcome to try out a training session at my club in the Tallaght area. Check out www.twokingsmma.net for more details. If you've any questions, just fire away!

Hey Noel, I'm also gonna give Bujinkan a plug! As well as the club in Clondalkin, there's one in Cabra that trains on Thursday evenings. The address is also on the bujinkan.ie webpage - good luck with whatever you end up doing!

I was also thinking about trying out Bujinkan at the club by Parnell St. went to watch a session there and it was interesting to say the least.

Anyways going back on topic i would recommend something like Judo or MMA as you have a good advantage of height and weight to use, all you would need is some training. I'm sure you would be accommodated well in Colm's club in Tallaght... he'd sort you out in no time ;)
