What do you reckon? Personally I think it's pants! I have difficulty identifing anymore than 1 or 2 jobs on there, surely the civil services are always recruiting people at entry level??? I cant find anything on their website anyway....So how do I go about finding what jobs are available? I have called but the very helpfull lady said "don't know....have you tried the website?" , despite me opening with "I was looking at your website..."

Obviously it can't be very difficult to get in! :) All advice greatly appreciated.

It does seem as if the civil seviceis only recruting about 8 ppl right now.....who knows those numbers might be correct - more then likely though they are totally wrong

    I actually think PublicJobs.ie is -

"Bertie, we had better use this internet thing for everything. OK, we'll start with a jobs website."

I don't think it is actually a serious operation.

It's a shame, because they have a huge office in a seriously expensive part of town. Total waste of OUR money...

well tbh, they don't continuously recruit entry level people, they do it once every couple of years, make everyone sit a test and based on the results they form a panel from which they interview people and fill jobs that arise over the following year or so. otherwise the cost of carrying out the test and everything every few weeks when vacancies arise would be prohibitive i guess....

They don't continually recruit people at entry level. As the above poster said they have competitions once every couple of years and use that to form a panel of a couple of hundred people from which people are hired from over the course of a couple of years. They just had a competition for Executive Officer and I think they should be having a competition for Clerical Officer pretty soon (I think the last one was a couple of years ago).

All jobs available are advertised on publicjobs.ie but you have to remember as well that I think alot of promotion is done internally.

Nepotism is still rife in the civil service despite what you read.

Yup. And most of the jobs are already ear marked for someone. They have to advertise them for legal reasons.

I know this because my brother works in a government type job and has experienced this on more than one occassion.

This syndrome isn't all that uncommon in the private sector either.
