I've a PC with a lost password. I don't want to reinstall windows and the drivers etc.

Will a repair install do the job?

I've discounted this but I'll ask anyway, is it possible to plug the pc into the network and delete the sam file? The machine has a nic. I don't know the computer name and there is no set IP. I know it'll ask for pwd at some stage.

Know a little, not a lot :) Heard before that deleting the sam file will then prompt for new passowrd at reboot. Is this right?

It's FAT32, so I booted from floppy. What's the full name of the sam file.. is it in system32?

yeah don't delete it just rename the sam file in c:\winnt\system32\config

or just search for *.sam in your system32 directory

u should be left wit an admin account that doesn't need a password

let us know how u get on
