Well, it depends on a lot of things. More so than most, any download is only going to be as fast as its slowest point. So, saying that download speeds vary from week to week isn't really anything surprising.

I'm on the same plan as yourself, and find that a good speed can hit as much as 102-105kbps.

the best way to determine what broadband speed your getting is to take this speedtest .

How long have you had Broadband, and has it always acted in the same way with inconsistency?
If you consistently have a poor speed then contact Eircom Broadband. They should be able to provide you with some troubleshooting.

You can see here from this image that it tells you your upload speed and download speed. I have a 98% quality rating so that means that i'm pretty much getting what i paid for.

One thing to check is for Spyware and Viruses that may be on your PC. They can cause major sluggish connection issues and absorb all your bandwidth. Make sure you have a firewall as well. Check out the Essential Free Software Thread here for the tools you need

Yeah but i think some people feel that because they have a 1MB line from eircom that they should get 1MB download. Sadly it does not work like that, i have the 1MB package and i get between 90Kb and 150Kb which is still great and it is very stable. So if you are getting 25Kb on a 1MB eircom line then i feel you should contact them.

80kbps would be about right for a 1Mb connection.
Download speed is also limited by the server you're downloading from, and by the number of other people downloading from that server at the same time.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA. Harsh, but funny.

To the OP: Try downloading a file from the downloads section of www.unreal.ie. You should get full whack out of that. If you're on a 1meg connection, that means in and around 102K per second. If you're not getting that, I'd start looking for solutions.
