Anybody know when it's time to start queing for lockers? I know i have to go in at like 7:30 some morning...but what day i dunno. Apparently you only find out about this through word of mouth...I refuse to do another year of labs without a locker!!! I'll just drop out altogether if i don't get one!

All lockers will be available from Monday morning. Go to the arts block as early as you can and grab a sheet in the main lobby area thing and start queuing at the security hobbit's door. Have €30 ready (you'll get half this back at the end of the year).

Thanks for posting it up, I know a lot of people don't know about the lockers, or how hard they are to get.

I'm doin' CS so I will be mostly down the East End, does anyone know if it is worth getting a locker in the Art's block (they are the big ones right??) if I am going to sports clubs and the likes and I need to store spare cloves or something? (I don't know how deep the Hamilton ones are, can you fit much in them?)

I suppose you can't put them all in the christmas ham.

I got a locker in the Arts Block in first year while doing TP, and then Engineering. It sucked. If you get in early on Monday, you'll be able to get lockers on the ground floor of the hamilton - I wouldn't get one in the Arts again. It's handy for when you're doing some work in the Ham Lib, and then you can stash your notes in the Hamilton. Also, your locker will be accessible 24 hours a day instead of only open til 10 in the Arts Building.

Or if you want, you could get a locker in the Arts block, and then get one in the Museum Building for e1 off the Eng Soc. They usually do that anyways.

/edit: There are only SOME large lockers in the Arts block. The rest are the same size as the hamilton lockers.

Does anyone know whether that is the time everyone is supposed to be there to get a locker?

Where is this exactly? Is this place still in the Arts block or what?

There's no official time, all I'll say is the earlier you go in the better. Some people start queueing even earlier than 7:30 but once you're in around 8am I'd say you're fine (but then again, I haven't gotten a locker since second year).

Show up at the Ramp before 8am and you'll see the queue. The forms are given out at the security desk inside the door.

Where do you get the forms in the ham, and wher do you queue

Ham forms are given out at the Arts Block too, yeah, go figure...

Of course you can always pick up a form (they're in a box by the security desk in the arts block) and go home to bed. Come back in when there's no queue and get your locker.

    How does that work?
Thought they were 'sold' on a first come first served basis.

Provided you have a form, you have a locker, until the end of the week iirc. i'll be in around 7.30 or 8 tomorrow - see anyone in there? :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,163 ✭✭✭✭Boston

How can that work? Seems odd. When do they start accepting forms back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

straight away, when you go in security give u form, then u get key and pay at a diff place around the corner, but queue to get the key n pay so smart people go back to bed for a few hours

so where exactly is the security place that the you get the forms in in the Arts block (directions please!)...also do you think if im in at 8.15/30-ish that i would be in with a chance....no earlier buses :(

    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 728 ✭✭✭randomfella

MEH i actually don't think i'll bother with the locker. I won't have many books at all doing BESS. Plus i heard theres a place to store your sports stuff beside the ed burke.

The cloakrooms, yeah there's one in the Ham & Arts block. Only problem is that it's not 24 hours, and you can't leave things in there overnight without paying the e3 cover charge. But during the day it's grand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

I just use my locker to keep stuff safe (like laptop etc.) while on the piss :)

That time should be fine. The desk is directly at the entrance to the arts block that's at the top of the ramp (near that booth where the security people live at night). You'll see people going up and getting sheets from a security guard, follow their lead. You won't miss the queue either.

Oh and take note of where the Security Hobbit's office is, you'll need to bring your key back at the end of the year to get your deposit back.

me too. couldn't believe the size of the queue, i think partly it could be because the coll was plugging lockers on that orientation site they have for first years.

i got the form, turned around and went home for some more sleep - and nearly missed my 2pm lecture.

Holy ****...I got on the earliest bus possible, was in there by 6.45, and even then it was already down to quarter-sized ones. Ah well, at least that's over with until 3rd year.

As of this morning when i was talking to the locker man there are still some lockers available deep within the new loyd (lloyd? lyod? sp?!?!) building - knock on the 'campus superintendent' (again, f-ing spelling not my friend today) office door in the arts block with 30 euro in hand.

The lockers there are a little small, but would be very handy for anyone wanting to leave gym stuff there as the buildings are so close.

Yeah I grabbed one in the East End late last year cos of people not handing back forms cuckoo. Handy...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Apparently there are about 300 lockers free in the Lloyd according to an email we got yesterday.
