Best OCR software?

Has anyone got any recommendations for OCR software? It'll need to scan MS Word docs (can't get original digital format - don't ask) and they need to be editable then. Will be getting lots of different docs (paper docs and digital docs) and need to put them together in one digital doc. I was going to use Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro for putting them together in PDF format as they will be sent by email then. It's actually not for me but somebody else needs to do this in work instead of printing out 120 page docs for 50+ people twice monthly!! Any advice would be great.

Well I use ABBYY Finereader 5.0 Sprint, it does the job, I can't assure you it's the best though.

The one that comes with office 2003 isn't bad - and it's free if you already have office 2003. Actually IIRC if you have an exchange server you are allowed to use the latest client. And Outlook 2003 CD has it. So you would only have to pay for the media - if you had an exchange server.

If the DOC's are a one off then bite the bullet and do them once.
If the docs are arriving regularly then you'd be better off getting the originals for two reasons.
1 - less chance of errors, typos have been very expensive in the past
2 - copyright you are not allowed to copy the original document without the owners consent.

Avoid this anyway as it's rubbish, This Claro Scan2Text is good but this is only a 30 day trial, and it is a large download at 54.36MB several hours for a dial-up connection, A breeze for even the worst of broadband the most it would take is an hour. AbbyFine reader is the best OCR i have ever encountered and it comes with certain scanners and all-in-one printer scanners. It can of course also be bought separately.
