This is interesting - from http://www.skypressoffice.co.uk/SkyProductsServices/News/newsletter/OCTOBER%202005UK.html#1362

"Sky Three, launching at the end of the month (31 October) will offer a mixed schedule, showcasing programming from the Sky One library as well as original lifestyle commissions and travel documentaries from Sky Travel. The schedule will also feature programming from Sky News, Sky Movies, Sky Sports and Artsworld.

Simultaneously with the launch of Sky Three, the existing Sky Mix channel will be renamed Sky Two to create a family of entertainment channels around the core Sky One brand. Sky Three will be available via Sky digital, Freeview and also be available to viewers who have purchased Freesat from Sky.

An early highlight of the Sky Three schedule will be the first screening on free-to-air television of season three of award-winning US drama, '24' ."

Interesting that it'll be FTV (maybe even FTA).

It also looks like an interesting channel. More like the mainstream (BBC, ITV, RTE)with news, sports, movies etc, than Sky One.

Apart from a few flagship USA imports Sky 1 & Mix channels are rubbish and of course like much Satellite everything is repeated to death. Who needs a PVR/Sky+ for Satellite, it will be repeated again in months. Before VHS if I missed a TV episode I had to wait YEARS to see it again.

Trying not to get left out of non-Pay TV and do adverts for Pay TV.

Will it show selected episodes so you have to Sub to Sky1/2 to see the series?

Perhaps next CNBC, Bloomberg. TVEi, DWTV, TV5 all free on other sats will go FTV or FTA on Sky :)
Or even RTE, TV3 and TG4!

    it wont be selected episodes

it will be first run FTA terrestrial rights to things like 24 so i would imagine they would be in full

This appears to be in direct response to BBC3 which as been the surprise hit and is pulling viewers away from Sky one, fair play to the beeb. Also the launch of ITV4 next day may have been a factor.

i'd say ITV4 is the big reason for this. to combat BBC3 they could have put more on Sky Travel. Sky are going after the advertising money in a big way

But in reality, it has been ITV2 that has recently overtook Sky One as the most regularly watched multi-channel in multi-channel digital homes, a position that Sky One has held for well over 10 years, mostly because Sky One is not available on Freeview DTT.

With the exception of the odd good series that you wouldn't mind seeing again, will it just be regurgitating the crap that has already been broadcast on Sky 1 over the years?

The programme line-up for the first week is viewable at the link below - not as interesting as I thought it would be....

Saw the line up and it has the makings of an alright channels , alright that is if it is FTA....you would think that they could put some of the older simpsons on it by now i mean they were on BBC FTA so the right shouldn't be much of an issue.
I like the fact that there will be News on it.

Well Sky News is already FTA, not just at Astra/Eurobird 28.2E but other places too.

I don't think the red button works on 19.2E Astra Sky News :)

Isn't it mostly Sky1 & Sky2 (formerly Sky Mix) repeats?

I may renew with two Pick&Mix packs, but not till they offer a free box. The original is about dead at over 5 years old. We watch all the FTA sky on a FTA box now, with option of Digital Audio out onto the 5.1 amp (all only stereo of course).
