Nero not picking up DVD writer

I recently built a new machine and went to install Nero (multiple versions) on to it for DVD burning. Nero will not recognise or pick up my DVD RW drive or DVD rom drive! I can browse the drive contents perfectly through Nero, just when it comes to burning it wont work, will only allow me to burn an image.
I tried running the tests you get with Nero - No joy. My DVD drives works perfectly other than that! I can read, execute multiple DVDs, CDs etc, it was able to burn perfectly on my older machine which was running the same copy of Nero and same OS!!

Any advise what to do or suggestions?

    thanks
    hertz

What version of Nero are you using. How far back did you download / buy it?
What's the exact make of your DVD drive?

Have you checked Nero's hardware compatability list?

    [Edit]Nero HCL[/Edit]

My drive is an NEC DVDRW, which works fine. I have tried Nero 5.5.8, 5.5.9
version 5.5.9 works fine before with my drive so thats why I assumed it should work now, however a mate at work got the very same NEC drive and had the same problem, he fixed this by using Nero version 6+

That's the problem. You'll need one of the newer 6.x.x.x versions of Nero. Nero 5 won't support any of the newer drives.
