It's the new message from EA when you load the game that blocks ASE. I'm guessing that as soon as you read it the first time it'll disappear until there's a new update.

"BF2connector" is a little tool that lets you still use ASE. You launch the game from ASE and then go to multiplayer, "Connect to IP address" and enter BF2. The game will detect the IP you selected in ASE and connect.
