ID3 Tags and Kanji Characters

Do ID3v2 tags support Kanji characters?
I've tried changing the tags on some tracks in Winamp and if I paste in Kanji it returns question marks in the Winamp playlist box instead of the track names.

So is it the tags don't support it or Winamp doesn't?
    Using Winamp v5.1.

Since ID3v2 supports Unicode, its probably Winamp.

EDIT: From Googling, a post on the Winamp forums (albeit from 2003 while 5 was in development - aptly named "The final word on unicode") says
Just so that the matter is settled (and to be clear, I'm not writing this to debate *about* unicode), there is no support of unicode coming up in Winamp 5. That's it.

    ...

as it has been since a long time in Winamp 2, Winamp 5 can display strings in japanese or in hebrew (freeform skins couldn't previously do it, hence my captures, which I have slightly regreted making since), so long as your Windows is set to japanese or hebrew as your default language.

    Which seems like bollox.

Meh, well I'm not changing to Japanese Windows just so I can have my tags displayed properly.

Looks like I'll have to go looking for a new player. Damn it, I like Winamp.

FooBar2000, by a former Winamp coder, apparently has full Unicode support, and should be able to display them properly. Its also seems to have quite a lot of Winamp's feature list.

Aye, just installed it actually. :)
Just messing about with it at the moment. Doesn't display the files by tag, rather as track name at the moment. Must have a look at the old preferences.
