Streaming music with .pls (winamp) files

    Hi guys, i visited an audio website before and in order to stream mp3's from their server i had to download an .pls file (i can't remember the site!). The file automatically opened with Winamp and displayed all the mp3's on their server. Happy Days! All i had to do was flick thru the library and select my mp3's to play.

    I would like to attempt to do the same thing myself. I download this
    program. It creates .pls (winamp playlist files), but it only allows you to create playlists on your local machine, it doesn't have an option to stream mp3's from a server! Could someone please advise on how to do this. I have tried google, it aint my friend today :(

    Do a search for Streamcast.

    It's a Winamp plugin that should let you stream to other PCs.

    I've never done it before myself though.

    Don't you have to pay for the streamcast server technology or something...like your web host needs to support it?

    To stream using winamp:

    Open up notepad and type in the following information
    [playlist]
    File1=http://www.myserver.com/mymusic/song.mp3
    Title1=My Song Name
    NumberOfEntries=1
    Version=2

    then save it as myfile.pls

    upload the .pls to your server and then link to it

    That's not actually a stream - it just allows the user listen to the file as it downloads to a tmp directory.

    i always tought it was just streamed! Where does the file get downloaded to snowbat just so i can check it out for myself!

    (do you know if there is any code you can put within the pls file to prevent it from been downloaded?)
