Hi, I'm planning on building a new PC from scratch with parts from Komplett. Below is a list of parts I have picked out. Can anyone give me some advice on any better or cheaper parts? Is this build worth a grand? I have all the other pieces like floppy, mouse etc already so this will be the final cost.

    Thanks.

lol ye i have a PSU.

so the general consensus is that i scrap my mobo and CPU and go wit AMD64?

I've also to build a cheap one ~€500. is it possible to build one that cheap of a decent standard?

If you want a cheap one with similar specs try getting things second hand. I built my PC from parts bought from boards members and it's class (well, I don't game so it does the trick for me ;))

    Abit AT7-MAX2 Socket A Motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 333FSB + Vantec €100
    2×512MB Kingston HyperX 333MHz (PC2700) CL2 €80
Old beige tower w/300w PSU €10
    Richoh DVD+-RW €30
    nVidia GeForce FX5200, 128MB, AGP €40
Western Digital 80GB IDE hard drive €45
Seagate 120GB IDE hard drive €45
    Recently: 350W PSU €15

    Total: €365

Obviously you run the risk of getting bogey parts and you can't be guaranteed the right offer will come around but it's a handy way to build a cheap, high-end PC
