Guys.....got the bro's Dell GX110 system at the moment..bit of a problem....on boot up, just as the splash screen is about from the windows XP logo to the blue 'Welcome' screen, the monitor shuts off! but the system quite obviously keeps going with the boot up music etc......It's onboard graphics....tried an old PCI card but no use...Thought that the drivers were corrupted and did a fresh install and to my horror (after wasting an hour) it did it again!!!....Any thoughts!??.....I'm bleedin' stumped!!....thoughts ...ideas....miracles..etc..??

Sounds like your monitor resolution is off. Cant quite remeber how to set it back to default but im sure Google could help!

Failsafe mode through F8 at boot will get you up so that you
can change the settings etc. Probably the video driver being arseways
as you would actually have to ok a new setting within 15 secs normally.

Update: Well...tried a different monitor and hey presto...worked!..although I do remember the same happening a few years ago to another system and had to hook up a 17" to get it going so I could access the settings. In 'Safe' mode nothing I changed worked. Interestingly the monitor it worked with was a Dell monitor....Anyway..Many thanks for the ideas and GaRtH_V, it definitely was a resolution issue.

    Cheers...Dave.
