Just thought I'd mention (as David Moore refused to! ) that the annual Whirlpool Star Party is on in Birr this weekend. This is basically a get-together of astronomers and astronomy hobbyists from all over Ireland. There are lectures, displays, exhibits, astronomy shops buying and selling - everything you would want in a weekend.
