I have a Dell latitude D505 that is incredibly slow. Is their anything I can do to speed it up wihout actually having to take it for surgery.
It's only a few months old so should be fairly up to date.

I also keep getting the following page come up when I'm trying to access pages I know are alright: 'http://help.internet-optimizer.com'.
If I try the proper address a couple of times I can then get through to it.

Hope that makes sense and that some of you wise folks can help

internet optimizer is probably one of them programs that say they can speed up your internet but probably does nother but cause a nuisance. use spybot search and destroy to get rid of it.

Sounds like you have loads of spyware, malware and other crap on it. Get Spybot Search & Destroy like the other lads recommended and nuke all the crap.

I'd imagine its just security problems you having that are causing your pc to run a bit slow. Check out the Free Software Sticky in the this forum for Ant-Virus and a Firewall if you dont have any already. I'd recommed AVG anti virus and ZoneAlarm to you (both free of course!)

    if it's XP
one good thing is to turn off file indexing, which is used to give quicker search results

    to do this

go to my computer, right click on the hard disk (c,d, etc), select properties,
uncheck the box for "allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching", then click ok, then click apply to all subfolders/files

    Hello again

I've downloaded the spyware and it told me "Congratulations - No Immediate Threats Were Found" - yet I've still got a slow laptop.

    Anything else I can do??

    Thanks again
