    hi,
have built a new PC but when trying to install win XP get a BSOD then shut down.
PC boots to bios and sees ram processor etc all ok, issue only arrises when unpacking the installation files. Have checked the RAM in another machine and drives are ok. All cables on mobo have been checked and double checked.

Any ideas where problem might be?

    K7VT4A Pro asrock board
    Sempron 3000
    512 ddr

    tnx

It probally a problem with your motherboard, maybe the ide/sata controllers.

    deckie27,

it gets through the first stage of setup, copying the files then once the 'setup is starting' the pc just shuts down.

No sata configured, just IDE and have removed all but one small drive to install onto.

U still reckon its the mobo?
    tnx

    proper copy of XPSP2?

try one stick of ram at a time as well, and reset the bios to setup defaults.

    astro.
Its a legit copy of xp sp1. Only 1 stick of RAM and it works fine in another PC.

bios is at defaults except have onboards graphics sound disabled.

BSOD - call Irish Phsyics Live !

or tell us what the STOP code and message say

7B tends to be an incorrect HDD controller driver or incorrect CHS settings or virus on boot sector or other HDD related stuff. - If you have moved an old HDD to a new computer I'd expect to see a STOP and windows XP keel over in exactly the same way the good old windows 98 used to just go though a "found new hardware" dance and then run when moved.
