Giving my Girlfriend the keys to the car??

I wish to transfer ownership of my old car to my girlfriend. The car hasn't been used since last xmas and has been off the road and garaged. If I sign it over to her, as the new owner how much road tax will she be liable to pay starting from next month? Will there be back tax involved for her to pay is what I wish to know? The car is a 1.6 cc engine Irish car 1992.

Also the NCT is due again now in November? What paperwork will she need to get the car through the test re. tax, insurance? It is fine mechanically. Could I get a mechanic friend to drive it through the NCT as my partner hasn't sorted out insurance /tax yet.

    thanks.

New owners are only liable for tax from the date of transfer of ownership. Just as an aside, you can declare the car as having been off the road to avoid arrears if you were not transferring ownership, you'll need to get the declaraition witnessed in your local garda station, simple procedure.

tax isn't required for the NCT, I don't think insurance would be either. Of course she'll need tax and insurance to drive it there and back

just call the nct and tell them the car is off the road and you can have time to tax and insure before the NCT due date they will extend at no extra cost I think there is an extra charge if you miss the date or cancel to late.

Just fill in the decleration of non road useage and get it singed at the local garda stn. That covers you for the tax.You will need the car taxed for th nct aswell

Tax or insurance status isn't part of the NCT

Sure you can't get taxed or insured if you don't have one :D

    'one' being the NCT? Incorrect!
