I hate almost all of them. I don’t want to know about your relationships(unless you're telling me about the rude bits), or what you ate for dinner last night. And don’t expect me to meet you for drinks because you blogged where you were going.Pighead will always be washing his hair
I even hate the word BLOG almost as much as the words,Panties Proactive or kewl
But what drives people to publish personal information in the first place?I'm guessing its because:

    * People like talking about themselves
    * Reputation. In online communities, it is sometimes important to offer more personal information in order to build trust (ie. link to your blog from your signature when posting
    * Fame. In a society where your basic needs are fulfilled, some start to strive for fame
    * Coordination. I can say on my blog, "I'm going to be in the Porterhouse tonight at 9. If anyone else want's to see Pighead, come on over." My friends are likely to see it, regardless of which cliques they are part of.
Anyway enough moaning let me tell you what Pighead got up to over the weekend
So that was the greatest weekend of all time: watched creep and it scared me which i was delighted about because i thought i was devoid of emotion, new shoes which were lovely and brown(my fave colour by the way, , two pizzas, two nights of garlic bread, ! bottle of white wine and 3 glasses of Rum and coke.
Don't forget to tell them about the hangover Pighead.

Perhaps if you don't like them you should ignore them. Maybe you could start a Pighead blog instead of bombarding After Hours with your alternating 1st/3rd person, its so hard to read!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Pighead shall never start a Pighead blog. The day Pighead starts a blog is the day Keven rc-ie gets unbanned from boards. On a totally unrelated note i find it interesting that Turkey shall be joining the eurozone in the near future. :o
Excellent suggestion by the way with regarding ignoring the blogs.
Dont mind Pighead Mr Soap.He hates everything on Monday Mornings.I hate blogs today, in fact I hate the internet, the world wide web but most of all, I guess I just hate the human race - the net is after all, merely a reflection of the crap spewed out by the boring spanners that inhabit an otherwise pretty round ball of blue.*
    *Includes Pighead

Pighead my man, as always, im thinking it, and you say it. Noone wants to read about what you ate for breakfast, or what section of your ass just went numb from scratching it. Noone cares. Maybe if a hollywood stuntman or professional ninja started a blog about how he could kill a man by looking at him over the phone, that would be interesting to read. But honestly, noone gives a crap. Ive only read a couple, and already feel cheate dof valuable seconds of my life.
    Blog this: NOONE CARES.

There are a few exceptions that aim to amuse rather then inform but by and large they are pointless and boring as hell

Agreed with in principle - but your generalisation omitts blogs that aren't entirely personal..

Erm... Pighead, Turkey will be joining the Euro Zone in a few years, it's already being discussed, after they become a part of the EU. By the by, visit my blog! :P

I'm afraid i must generalize as if I were to rate each blog on its own merits I would be still typing in the year 2525 and i would also get a big pain in my head.
Generalize:. To speak in general terms or form general opinions, especially ones that are too general to be applied to all individual cases.

I hate them from the point of view that they usually pop up as matchs on google whenever I'm looking for something retro or obscure eg I search and click link for kids tv show C.O.P.S. only to be met with "I loved C.O.P.S. Did you love C.O.P.S? C.O.P.S. was kewl! Comment:" HEY A-HOLE, THAT GIVES ME NO INFO ON C.O.P.S! :)

As regards content and enjoyment factor however I believe that if it makes people happy typing them thats fine by me. Just don't tell that them that there is probably 10 times as much time and effort spent writing blogs as will ever be spent reading them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

The only time a blog is useful is when you want to keep in contact with people who are in a different city/country. Rather than sending out a mass email, you can place the information in one location that people have access to, and all comments are subsequently in the one location as well.

I'd gladly donate 10 Euro to a blog creation scheme right now if it could guarentee I never had to see another link to that fcuktard Maddoxs websh1te.

blogs are there for your friends to read, if anyone reads them thats ok, but dont slam someone for writing one up, afterall everybody is interested in what happens in people lives.
Its like a soap, personally i dont watch eastenders, but lots of people do because its like a tv blog of a persons life, if you dont want to watch it, just switch channel, same as if you dont want to read a blog dont click on it.

But come on Pighead, im sure you were a tad interested in some that you read. :)

My word sjones i am surprised at you!I've followed your shaming system for a while now and I know for a fact your better than what the above question suggests.
If I don't like blogs then what am I doing on a message board? You obviously have failed to notice that the two aren't mutually exclusive.Web boards have been around quite a bit longer than blog my friend.Thats a bit like me inventing a horse with wings and entering him into the Derby. He'll win every year, you'll get bored with the lack of competition and create a thread called "I fcuking hate flying horses".And if i were to adopt the attitude you have adopted I would reply with the words :

I hope I haven't been too harsh on you buddy.

Believe me Dfitzer if all blogs were up to the mighty standard of Miss Bungle I can assure you this thread would not exist.Unfortunately her blog is a Chelsea in a world full of Plymouth Argyles

Ok Sparky, you got me.I did read an interesting piece in a boardsters blog with some top notch advice for combatting smelly feet. Apparently to cure sweaty, smelly feet, remember to always wash and dry those feet, especially between the toes. One can also use deodorant insoles or soak feet in tea (two tea bags per quart warm water).
Apart from that nugget though i can stand here hand on heart and say theres been nothing else

I'm not much for blogs, myself. I used to have a xanga site, but I never knew what to write because I hated spilling my guts to the world; that's what a personal journal is for. So yeah... I just stopped updating and never bothered to make a myspace account when the rest of society upgraded from xanga to myspace...

Blogs are basically people making up stuff about how they would like thier lives to be, they are eejits, and whats more its boring I totally agree with pig head. And I'd go so far as to say that these people's time would better be spent on a psychologists sofa rather than with a keyboard.....hmmmmmm. I mean really Today I did this (or i wish i did as then my life would be interesting..blah..blah)

Much like many blogs, really. How very postmodern... Or something.

Personally, the quality of a blog depends on the bloggers approach to it. Many of them are just "what I ate for lunch", or "this is my uninformed opinion on something I have little knowledge about", but there are some quality ones out there. You just have to know what to look for. Avoid LiveJournal like the plague, for a start.

I read blogs. I read blogs by people with similar interests to me, usually those by programmers, developers, etc. I check out the MSDN, and java.net blogs a couple of times a day.

There are also lots of other types of relevant blogging, though perhaps not relevant to everyone. For example, I once happened upon a blog by a person who was diagnosed with MS. As well as some of the usual tripe you get on personal blogs (though it was usually kept to a minimum), many of his posts were about news of treatments, treatments he himself was on, reaction to said treatments, etc.

There can be a lot of good in blogs as long as they are done right. Many people just use them as diaries, however.

I dont know where people get the time to immerse themselves in all these random blog authors. Do you have to be in front of the computer 23 hours a day to be up on whats going on in Blogsville ?

Thank you for your objective analysis. For your information, he is one of the regular posters on the aforementioned MSDN blogs, and his technical posts are often very interesting.

But hey, he put the information out on the public domain. Are you really surprised someone read it?

Avoid LiveJournal like the plague, for a start.

I don't know, I've found livejournal very handy for keeping in touch with people that I don't get to see very often.

Nearly my entire friends list is made up of people who I know in real life but who live abroad/different cities. It's easy to keep in touch with them this way and less intrusive than calling them or IMing them.

Most of said blogs are "this is what is happening in my life" but that isn't a bad thing since I tend to add people whose life I'm at least somewhat interested in.

Ok ok relax the cacks!!!! I just took it from your post that you were just happening to be reading some poor guys miserablite story...And really there was no need to explain so vehemently youre reasons for being on his blog anyway...............I'm sure it was very entertaining...today I did this, yesterday I did that blah blah, I hope the guy gets well soon

The only blog i read was that poor unfortunate, who posted about his sisters boyfriend coming over, and waiting for her to come in, only for him to murder the both of them. It was linked up with the news report. Very eerie and sad.

Hey! Don't tar all us bloggers with the same brush!

I started a blog the other day. Not for the world and it's mother to read about my adventures with the cornflakes this morning, or about how I dropped my pen twice in my lecture today, but for me.

I thought it'd be nice to have a diary that I don't have to worry about losing, or other people opening and reading. I'm not looking for attention, or for random people leaving comments saying "Hey, I did a number two this morning as well!". My blog is locked to everyone but me so it's completely private, no-one else can read it. I wish I'd started a blog sooner, it's gonna be cool next summer looking back over this college year and reading all about my drunken shenanigans!

While we're at it, can we get one for message board posting introduced? Has anyone else noticed the irony of this thread, considering the OP's continuing useage of AH as his own little interactive blog?

I take great offence to that outrageous post BuffyBot!I'm deeply hurt and find such a blatant personal attack sickening.
I sat there and read your post without saying a word. This hurt me more than Sarky and Shabadus constant jibes because I thought we were buddies. You have the nerve to complain to me about what i've been posting in after Hours.
If it hurt you so badly, then why didn't you PM me instead of humiliating me in public and adding fuel to the fire? Did you not think about what you were doing? Obviously the only person on BuffyBots mind is BuffyBot. I want to say so much to her at that moment, but can't as my fingers are trembling with hurt.
By the way just to let you all know i'm wearing a red t-shirt today and brown cords,i had rice krispies for brekkie and everythings fine in the world(apart from Buffys post obviously).

    Gimmicky posting?
I'm sick to the backbone of the word gimmick, how on earth is Pighead a gimmick poster? As everybody knows a gimmick is an innovative strategy or scheme employed especially to promote a project or person.
Now correct me if i'm wrong but starting a thread which moans against the rise of the blog is hardly a great strategy to make friends and influence people when almost all on boards blog to some degree.
Why should i let someone talk to me as if i'm a piece of poo just because they're a little upset about the nature of a post? Does one or two bad threads make me sub-human? Am i considered no better than a dog? Cue the one liners.
Anyhow, Pighead tends to feel free to say whats on his mind and tries to avoid personal abuse. If its a gimmick you're after maybe thats it right there.

Couldn't happen ,only 3 yr old flying horses would be able the Derby so he'll only be able to win it once :)
