X800GT + X800RX - Virtually The Same Card, Completely Diff Feedback

I'm slightly confused by the situation above, and was wondering if someone might be able to help me out with a few details.

The X800GT is generally thought of as a better card than nVidia's 6600GT, it outscores it and the praise heaped upon it online is huge. Seemingly only 3 companies have the right to market the cards sold as GT, Sapphire, Powercolour and some other brand I can't remember.
A few weeks back Gecube brought a card onto the market known as the X800RX, just to confuse that segment of the market even more! I looked into it and it seems the X800RX is basically an X800GT, but for legal reasons or whatever you want to call it, they can't market it as an X800GT. The X800RX ships with faster memory and core speeds than the X800GT, but if you look around on the net, the feedback on the card is terrible, with people saying that it's worse than a 6600GT and that's the card to go for.

Do you see why I'm confused? The X800GT gets better feedback than the 6600GT, yet the X800RX which is basically a slightly faster version of the X800GT gets terrible feedback.

What's the story, they are basically the same card so why does the feedback vary so much?

The Feedback is based on the whole experience.

The software is often made by the licensed manufacturer and no matter how good your hardware is, if its not backed up by top notch software then the whole thing goes to ****.

I don't believe it's got anything to do with software, as both cards are ATI cards, so use the same drivers. The reviews I read were focusing on the hardware rather than the software that it came with. In terms of games, they both ship with fairly similar bundles.
There is something more to it- I just can't figure out what.

    are they the same core?

My GF4Ti4200 runs same speed as my 6600gt, doesnt mean its gonna be as good tho...

The X800RX is based on the R480 core which is an X800XT core as far as I know. So basically it's an X800XT that didn't make the grade.

could be a pipeline/mem bandwidth difference. You have the original reviews you are basing this off? as it seems to me, your question is unanswerable without that info.
