I like to upgrade the memory of my IBM R51E (2888 series) laptop.
    Here are the specs:

    Part Number: 31P9832
    512MB PC2700 CL2.5 Non-Parity DDR SDRAM SODIMM Memory (ThinkPad)
Estimated price at IBM dealer - 98,00 €

I found the following info at komplete.ie
    Crucial memory - 512 MB - SO DIMM 200-pin - DDR
Storage Capacity 512 MB Technology DDR SDRAM
    Form Factor SO DIMM 200-pin Memory Speed 333 MHz ( PC2700 )
    Estimated price - 68 €

At microdirect.co.uk the price for memory is around 55 €

At PC-memory-upgrade.co.uk the price for 512MB TRANSCEND is 70.00 EUR
    57.85 EUR without VAT

i am confused where to buy it. is there any advantage in buying the memory from an IBM dealer.
or where cud i get a reliable cheaper one?

I also like to buy an external DVD writer and External Harddrive. Should i shop at PC World ? or is there a cheaper option?

The memory that you purchase from IBM is the same as the memory that you'd buy from the likes of komplett, the only difference being that is has an IBM sticker on it. you're giving IBM up to €40 extra for that privilige :D

if you are going to buy memory online, it would be cheaper to purchase an external DVD and hard-drive from the same online shop as you would purchase the memory from. Komplett are quite reasonably priced on delivery especially if you use the An Post delivery option, if you dont mind waiting an extra few days for delivery.
