Don't you mean Deirdre O'Kane (and yes, she isn't funny).

I think Victoria Woods is very good. So is Roseanne Barr.

    ME!!

Well, people laugh at me a lot, and frequently when I'm standing up. So technically........

Anyway, no, I don't know or have never seen any funny female stand up. It all resorts to jaded 'my boyfriend / my period / my mother' jokes.

Joan Rivers was on that stand-up show that Jimmy Carr presented or whatever, and I thought she was hilarious. Can't say I've heard many other funny ones, though.

Sarah Silverman is funny. And hot too.

Sarah Silverman is funny sometimes although she reverts to the same old "So I'm on my Period" crap. She does take it to a more extreme level though.

^ Beaten, and yes also hot :D

Yeah, have to agree. There's a real drought of funny female stand-up's. Sarah Silverman is probably the best out there right now!

PS - look out for her new stand-up type film - Jesus Is Magic (trailer here)

She was good on Mr.Show, the band with the disabilites. Hers being that she was a woman :D

i'd definitely agree that 99% of female comdians are complete sh*te. they're not funny and talk about the same tripe again and again.
the only exception to the rule that I've found is Nina Conti. Saw her on Just for laughs or one of those and she's very very funny. does a sort of ventriloquism act with a monkey, but the difference is that she's not crap like most other ventriloquists and turns the whole act on its head

The fat one that does the teerys ad, its not terries, its MINE

agreed that female comics arent in the same class as their male counterparts - though nina conte (sp?) is not too bad - and not bad on the eye either

went to see the finals of the bulmers comedy awards last week - 3 females 3 males - two of the women were TERRIBLE - one was tommy tiernans niece and she was one of the single worst comediennes i have ever seen - i dont know if it was a case of having 3 men and 3 women in the finals but if its a case of positive descrimination all it does is reinforce the notion that women are not funny and make the life of the few who are good even harder on the comedy circut

Yeah was just gonna mention Nina Conti...that act with the monkey is side splittingly funny, but having said that, the few times I saw her act they all ended with similar routine/punchlines....it's stand up but has a novelty aspect.
Strictly stand-up? I can't really thnk of one offhand though I've definitely laughed at a few when you see them on a variety stand up show, or one of te televised festivals.

I have to say I find the english female comic Catherine Tate is very funny indeed although I dont think she has ever done standup but her self titled show is brilliant.

The female ventriloquist on Ed Byrne's Just For Laughs was great. She played Bernards girlfriend the Black Books episode The Entertainer.

Women can be just as funny as men and thats a fact. Some members of boards are under the impression Pighead is a big slimy smelly sexist.I'm not having that,I recently had another major bust-up with my 'big tittied burd' over this subject as she also accused me of being sexist. I said I wasn't and gave her a quick slap on the arse to hammer the point home.
Unfortunately women are expected to be not only as funny as men but funnier.Sometimes I can feel the audience dynamic change when a woman is introduced at a club. Like the standards change instantly and they are thinking, "You better be fcuking hilarious or totally beautiful in order to make me laugh. I'm not going to open myself up to a woman on stage." Women have to be so much funnier than the men on their level. They have to be so much better looking.

Maeve (dont know her surname) from Naked Camera and the Ray D'Arcy show is funny.

The only one that makes me laugh is Nina Conti, pure class with that monkey of hers! :)

Female stand-ups are sh*te. They have to be, by simple virtue of the fact that they're female.

    How can anyone who:

Believes in fortune tellers and horoscopes

Spends hours getting dressed and then moans that they're not as pretty as everyone else

Spends hours in Boots looking at shampoo labels

Whinges about what bastards men are and then organise their whole lives around trying to look pretty for them

Buys magazines with articles entitled 'celebrity sweat patches!'

Touts having periods as a qualification for joining an exclusive members only club which qualifies them to act like complete wenches

Possibly be even mildly amusing? The problem is most of the gags are based around these issues and so, even though women may at times find them amusing - for men it's just a case of listening to the same old **** - but this time the b*tch has a microphone - god help us all!

No. There are no side-splitting female stand-ups.
It's an unfortunate fact, but a fact none the less - like formula 1 drivers.

oh.......in that case down with the female comedians

My opinion is that women can be funny, as long as....

    1. They aren't talking about "women's things".
    2. They aren't talking about bringing up kids.
    3. They aren't slagging men off.
    4. They aren't slagging football off.
    5. They aren't talking about how hard their lives are compared to men.

But seeing as Ann Elk has informed me that all female stand ups are sh*te and that women rarely stay away from any of the above in conversation i think its fair to say, funny they aren't!

Not one funny female standup comes to mind. There are plenty in sitcoms but not in a stand up role. Although I have not seen every female standup but as of yet....not funny.

there is no such thing as a funny female stand-up comedian. All they do is whine about how men are sh!te or how periods suck. They're a shower of annoying feminists.

Always thought that Australian duo were funny. Ones that do a mix of jokes and their own songs... Never remember their name though...

Yeah, but the fact that she is Female Stand Up kinda under cuts that point.

I hate that attitude, male stand ups talk about things that women can't relate to all the time, but because women are classed as the 'other' mentioning something that only applies to them somehow cannot be funny.
