Live Long and Die Out...

It's hard to believe these people are serious but apparently they are:

    Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

They are a group who want to phase out the human race for the good of the earth.

    I'll let them explain:

The Movement presents an encouraging alternative to the callous exploitation and wholesale destruction of the Earth's ecology.

As VHEMT Volunteers know, the hopeful alternative to the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals is the voluntary extinction of one species: Homo sapiens... us.

Each time another one of us decides to not add another one of us to the burgeoning billions already squatting on this ravaged planet, another ray of hope shines through the gloom.

When every human chooses to stop breeding, Earth's biosphere will be allowed to return to its former glory, and all remaining creatures will be free to live, die, evolve (if they believe in evolution), and will perhaps pass away, as so many of Mother Nature's "experiments" have done throughout the eons. Good health will be restored to the Earth's ecology... to the "life form" known by many as Gaia.

It's going to take all of us going.

What do you say guys? Shall we make ourselves extinct? Personally I'd prefer if we could make websites like this one extinct...

I'm sorry, but that sounds kinda weird... I mean, if they wanted to blot out the world's population, that would mean suicide for them right?

    Humans do fuck everything up...

But I don't fancy dying, so they'll just have to wait :)

Then when the next batch of monkies evolve into intelligent lifeforms they'll do the same thing we have. In that case we'll have made ourselves extinct in vain. Somone has got to destroy this planet, it might as well be us.

Only from a human point of view.

Trust me, there's pretty much nothing we could do that the planet won't recover from completely in a couple hundred million years. This "calm" period that let life develop to the degree it has is long overdue to be turned tit over arse. And then normality shall resume...

Well people like that just basically creep me out! This is just another one of those creepy cults, if i may call it that, that plague society

Though in saying that, there is method in their madness. We are the only ones who are inevitably going to destroy the Earth and ruin it for the millions of other species on the planet. Without us the planet will be fine. They have got a point, but unfortunently it's a tad bit of the crazy side

Damn going to stfu now, sounding like a hippy... :D

I dont think they're advocating suicide , just that everyone stops breeding and those that are alive already will die of old age.

Yes, but the recovery of the ecosystem will take quite a while, the duration of our natural lives isn;t gonna factor in

    Oh, and I lolled

Isn't it all just similar to that episode of Spooks that was on the other week, with some group who believed humans should be gotten rid of for the better of the planet and started planting bombs in London, except without the bombs

I totally agree with it. It's for the greater good. Without humans the lives of so many other species would be far better, it's a selfless act. The only problem I'd have with it is the mess we would be leaving the place in. I'd prefer to see a simple Undo button job:D Humans are basically a virus sweeping through the planet destroying everything else.

To be honest, I can't say I disagree with them... Look at the state of the planet!

Also reminds me of a poster which was in the simpsons (yes, sleepy's law proved)

"Give Apes the Vote! You won't regret it!"

(at least I think it was the simpsons. May have been futurama)

That's exactly the problem though. Look at it from a different prospective. How about that of... an endangered species. It makes sense. Were just afraid to admit it and obviously unwilling to act upon it.

You could also argue that if these endangered species were smarter they wouldn't be endangered.

Humans run the show and that's the way it should be. If apes wanna try and take over I say bring it on!

"Oooh, so Mother Nature needs a favor?! Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys! Nature started the fight for survival, and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese"

We'll destroy ourselves in our own time, then everything else can have the planet back.

    That's evolution.

I recall reading about a group in the US called Rapturists (? may be something similar). Anyway they believed they were in the end times and rather then having the world go on in pain if they brought about the rapture sooner then the good people would be saved.

Pretty kooky. Can't find the page again (just looked). Maybe thier mothership already took em.
