    Any advise for a newb?

I play a fair bit of poker, mostly around the 15-50 stt's on stars, 9 handed. I think I'm an ok player and still learning loads from the game. I like to play in games that are 10% of my bankroll, helps me from going too crazy, but there is a $35 game on stars that is 6 handed. I have absolutely no idea what to do in this game! So I've been avoiding it :)

Also the game on in the Fitz tomorrow sounds like it's going to be 6 handed. Do you guys have any advise on this one?

Why are you playing on $30 STT's if you are 'a newb' ffs?

I dunno, back in my time (yawn :p ) you'd start off on the $3 or $5 STT's.

i think Nicky O D`s answer is spot on -

how do you play when 3 players are knocked out from your 9 seat table?

I'm hearing ya's there mark/nicky, I'm just thinking for a 6 table multi tourney it's going to be different to what I'm use to, I was just looking for some advise, whether it be play it slow, or play more aggresive, I don't know. I thought maybe someone could give me some tips.

    And
Why are you playing on $30 STT's if you are 'a newb' ffs?

this wasn't what I was expecting.

In fairness you said were a newb, not someone who has being playing two years. So apologises for jumping to conclusions.

Would you advise a newb to start on $30 STT's?

Anyways back on topic, 6 handed blinds come along quicker, and obviously there are less players so hand values go up in terms of their relative strength.

So I suppose you need to loosen up accordingly.

yeah this is the philosphy I was going in thinking of, but I think I played a little bit tighter than that. But it didn't work out to bad, I was one off money going off 7th place. Wasn't bad considering it my 2nd live tourney in the fitz.

your absolutely right about what I said about being a newb I just thought I could type what I wanted regardless of who I was or what I came from ;)

Yes you played too tight, couldnt believe it took you so long to call with AKs playing 3handed against Kinaldos ATo a couple of hands before you got knocked out, still shorthanded takes a bit of getting used to.

If you work in 'Zones' i.e Adjusting your play to the changing Blinds & Ante situation versus your stack size, you should also take into account the nature of the short handed table and re-evaluate your position.

e.g On a normal 10 seater table, blinds 1000/2000, your stack size is 30000, then you have 10 orbits left, and play according to that. However in Shorthand, it's more perilous than this, you need to factor the shorthanded nature of the tournament, so you'd 30000*60% (6 seats) = 18000, which means you should play as if you had 6 orbits left, i.e loosen your starting hand requirements and play aggressively.

Not sure if I described that clearly or not?

For STT's that's pretty risky. General concensus is 20 - 30 buyins. I used to do the whole 10 buyin rule but nearly went broke. And not by bad play. Just a downswing. From what i read on the 2+2 forums these downswings can be a lot worse.

I think 10% is OK, I work that rule, good thing about STT's you can just switch down a level, so if his $110 bankroll becomes $55, he can switch from $10 to $5 very easily. You want to be maximising your profitability as well as protecting your bankroll...it's a balancing act.

Oscar, I was always going to call as soon as I saw AKd, I just wanted to make sure that I got his last 2g's. Sure no doubt he was going to give it up up, but I thought I should have some game! Did I really play it that long? Anyways Easy come easy go, I lost it all within 5 or 6 hands!

Culchie, you did make sense there! Thanks for the advise :) The 10% for the STT's is working v well, I have no problems dropping back down to 15 games and 10 games if it gets to that.

All in all I really enjoyed the game, was a bit nerve racking to begin with, and I forgot to throw in my blinds a couple of times(nearly every time!), but it was a good learing experince. I didn't realise I was one off the money when I went out though, I'd have played that K7 a little differently had I known that!
