    Hi there all,
Having experience of ITV digital-I have to say they could have put more research and thought into their channel line up.
Considering the fact that unlike Sky-digital terrestial won't have as much room for everything and therfore should be considering a popular mix.
I was wondering what the views of everyone here on the Boards might be regarding what should be on the Irish version when it gets going?

I Think it should be linked to the TV license, since they are going to charge you an extra monthly fee to watch DTT on their decoders.
How does it make sense that you should still continue to pay a TV license for a service you cant get unless you pay another fee for.

Anyway I don't really see how it will ever take off, I was watching sky news coverage of WTC, and RTE's Coverage, and the Quality of RTE news was just crap. it didn't compare, and the content was simple boring as everything they had was taken from the likes of sky news.

Nothing will come of it, except alot of tac payers money will go to waste.

I might consider getting it if it can be got prepaid like in UK. And if I did get it it will be stuck on a TV other than the one with SkyDigital. On it I would probably only watch the 4 UK terrestrials and the 4 (well 3) Irish ones. Maybe use an occasional interactive feature until novelty wears off....:D

    Don't call the cops...!
The cleaners are in dusting down this section thats all..., mighty lot of cobwebs...
Its not a break in... , I think they have a key...

Well the whole idea of dtt in my understanding is choice-a bit more quantity( than analogue) and a lot more quality.

    three platforms-Cable-Satellite-dtt-competition not monopoly
people in town will be spoilt for choice and for those of us in the country-an alternative to mr murdock.

personally speaking-the most popular stuff from Sky digi would be nice-not forgetting the excelent wings-I presume RTE could look after the rest of the discovery stuff with a knowledge channel.
plenty of ppv movies at at extravision prices (doubtfull)
BBC news 24 ( with RTE opt outs-very doubtfull )
    copious quantities of football/sport
    The excelent film four
    NO SHOPPING channel
Wouldn't say no to SCI-FI channel either (doubtfull)

This country has a history in being slow regarding entering the modern age with tv and radio-usually due to a mass of red tape and bureocracy-i'm presuming Sky didnt have to apply to Ethain Doyle/ministry of ARTS etc b4 it became available here

Lets all go back to 405 line b+w , one channel teilifis Eireann while we're at it

To clarify a few points about how Irish DTT will work when/if it gets off the ground. All of these points and more have been approved by the Government in the Broadcasting Act of 2001.

    1. RTE will generate the content for 1 multiplex which they will pass on to the privately owned Multiplex company.

    2. The privately owned Multiplex company will be responsible for sourcing and multiplexing all programme/data content for 4 of the 6 multiplexes (TG4 and TV3 will generate the content for the other).

    3. No tax money or licence fees will be received by the privately owned Multiplex company (which will live or die on the strength of the services it offers). The licence fee will go to RTE to produce content that should appeal to an Irish audience (although the debate still rages about whether RTE will get increased licence fees for 3 new digital channels).

    4. The Government (aided by their consultants) are due to make a decision on who will get the Multiplex licence before the end of the year.

    5. The majority share of the RTE Network department will be sold to an outside agency who will be respnsible for the transmision of the multiplex signals around the country. RTE have the option to retain up to 28% of the Network company.

Hopefully it makes sense now? Its the law.
